USL League One announces 2020 schedule and competition format

DL - Revolution II Schedule

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – USL League One announced the full schedule and updated competition format for the league’s restructured 2020 season on Friday, which will see 11 teams compete over the next 15 weeks for a place in the 2020 League One Final. Revolution II will open its inaugural 16-game campaign at Gillette Stadium on July 25 hosting fellow first-year club Union Omaha. The July 25 match will be closed to fans, and future Revolution II home games will remain closed to fans until further notice.

Every game of the 2020 League One season can be viewed in the United States on ESPN+, with international viewers able to take in all the action on YouTube. For a complete schedule, visit www.uslleagueone.com.

The updated competition format will see each club face every other team at least once over the course of the schedule. The regular season is set to run from July 18 through October 24 with the top two teams in the regular season standings advancing to the 2020 League One Final, which will be played the weekend following the conclusion of the regular season.

New England’s opening contest will see two of the league’s newcomers square off in their first-ever match. Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay will be making his professional head-coaching debut and will preside over a roster including four 2020 MLS SuperDraft selections and multiple Revolution Academy products.

Other notable matchups for New England include a trip to face the Richmond Kickers on October 3, a game that will see Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay return to the city where he served as the University of Richmond’s Head Coach earlier in his career. Richmond is coached by Darren Sawatzky, who was a member of the Revs’ inaugural 1996 squad and played for the club from 1996-97. Revolution II will also visit reigning USL League One champion North Texas SC on Saturday, August 15, before hosting them at Gillette Stadium on Friday, October 16.

All league activities for the duration of the 2020 season will be coordinated in compliance with both local health authorities’ protocols and those previously published by the USL, which were created in consultation with medical and infectious disease experts along with required government approvals.
