FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (July 7, 2023) – New England Revolution midfielder Carles Gil has been added to the 2023 MLS All-Star roster as a coach’s selection. The Revolution captain will join teammate Djordje Petrović as part of a group of 28 MLS All-Stars who will take on English Premier League side Arsenal FC on Wednesday, July 19 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The 2023 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target kicks off at 8:00 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

This marks the third straight season Carles Gil has been selected as an MLS All-Star, participating in last year’s exhibition for the first time after missing the 2021 event due to injury. Gil is the fourth Revolution player to earn three consecutive All-Star selections, joining Shalrie Joseph (2004-11), Matt Reis (2005-08), Taylor Twellman (2005-07), and Clint Dempsey (2004-06). Gil’s three All-Star selections are now tied for fifth most in club history with Dempsey and Michael Parkhurst.

Gil is among 28 MLS players named to the MLS All-Star Team roster and was one of 14 players selected by MLS All-Star Head Coach Wayne Rooney, manager of host club D.C. United, along with Petrović. An additional two players were selected by MLS Commissioner Don Garber, and the remaining 12 players were picked through the fan, player, and media vote. One of the league’s elite chance creators, Gil led the league in the category each of the last two seasons and currently leads MLS with 3.23 chances created per 90 (min. 500 minutes). With his next regular season helper, he will become the first Revolution player with four seasons of double-digit assists.

Since signing with New England in 2019, Gil has registered 62 assists across the regular season and playoffs, most in MLS, while his 0.51 assists per 90 minutes played is the third-best rate in league history (min. 20 assists). Earlier this season, the Spaniard became the fifth Revolution player to eclipse 100 goal contributions for the club across all competitions. Gil also became the fifth-fastest player in MLS history to reach 50 regular season assists, doing so in 105 games.
