Revolution sign first-round SuperDraft picks Brandon Bye and Mark Segbers

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have signed first-round 2018 MLS SuperDraft selections Brandon Bye (eighth overall) and Mark Segbers (ninth overall). The midfielder/defenders have been with New England since the beginning of the 2018 preseason as unsigned trialists and are now officially on the active roster.


With Friday’s signing of defender Nicolas Samayoa, a fourth-round selection at 78th overall, all three of New England’s 2018 MLS SuperDraft picks are now on the club’s active roster.


Both Bye and Segbers saw action in the exhibition matches during the club’s 2018 preseason trip to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Byeplayed 120 minutes in three appearances andtallied the equalizeragainst FC Cincinnati.Segbers played the final 16 minutes of the match against FC Cincinnati on Feb. 6 after recovering from an injury suffered earlier in preseason.


Bye, 22, recorded 22 goals and 19 assists in 67 appearances across four seasons with Western Michigan University. A team captain during his senior season, the Portage, Mich., native was named a Hermann Trophy semifinalist after pacing the MAC with 12 goals and 31 points while also setting career highs in appearances (21), starts (21), and assists (7). He led WMU to its first MAC regular season championship, NCAA Tournament win, and national top-five ranking. Off the field, Bye was named the 2017 United Soccer Coaches’ Division 1 National Scholar Player of the Year and is co-founder of the Aspiras Foundation.

Segbers, 21, was a four-year starter at Wisconsin and made 77 total appearances with 72 starts after graduating from St. John Vianney High School in St Louis, Mo. Segbers finished his career with 16 goals and 22 assists and recorded at least three goals and three assists in each of his four seasons. In his senior season, the St. Louis native helped lead the Badgers to the third round of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. He appeared in 21 matches, all starts, and recorded five goals and seven assists, garnering a Second Team All-Big Ten Conference selection.
