Revolution II forward Olger Escobar called up to U-18 Guatemala National Team

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (April 22, 2024) – Revolution II forward Olger Escobar has been selected by the U-18 Guatemala National Team to compete in the upcoming UEFA Friendship Tournament in Turkey.

Escobar earns his seventh international call-up with Guatemala after most recently appearing with the U-20s in the Concacaf Men’s Championship in February. The 17-year-old Revolution Academy product owns five starts across 19 appearances with Revolution II since making his professional debut in 2023. Escobar was named the 2022-23 UnitedHealthcare Revolution Academy Player of the Year, an annual award given to the most outstanding amateur player in the Revolution’s pro pathway. The 2023 U-17 MLS NEXT MVP registered his first senior cap for Guatemala during an international friendly against Jamaica last November.

The UEFA Friendship Tournament features eight national teams from five confederations. Guatemala will compete in Group B alongside Ecuador, Morocco, and Slovakia. Group A features Jamaica, Mali, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Escobar and Guatemala kick off group stage play today against Ecuador.

New England Revolution II continue the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season on Sunday, April 28, hosting Inter Miami II for the team’s first-ever match played at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium at Southern New Hampshire University. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. ET with James Hadnot calling the action.
