CURRENT FORM
New England Revolution
11th in Eastern Conference (6-6-5, 23 pts.)
Last Result | 3-2 loss vs. Nashville SC
Despite twice taking the lead on Wednesday night, the Revs relinquished all three points to Nashville after falling in a midweek duel at Gillette Stadium. New England went up early with a stunning goal from Tomás Chancalay in the 15th minute, before Nashville responded in the final moments of the first half to level the match. The Revs regained the lead early in the second half when Brayan Ceballos scored his first MLS goal, but some defensive mistakes saw the Revolution concede two more goals, ending the match in a 3-2 loss.
Even with those three goals against, New England stands as the best defensive side in the league after Matchday 20, with only 18 goals conceded through 17 games. While the Revolution defense remains strong, New England saw a boost in the attack with key attacking players Leo Campana and Luca Langoni returning from injury on Wednesday night.
Colorado Rapids
9th in Western Conference (7-8-4, 25 pts.)
Last Result | 2-0 win vs. LA Galaxy
Colorado secured three points at home against the LA Galaxy on Wednesday night, snapping a three-game losing streak in the process. The result has Colorado in playoff contention in the Western Conference, but their 25 points through 19 games highlight the differences between the East and West, as New England sit in 11th place with 23 points and two games in hand on the Western side.
Colorado will take on New England for the first time since 2023 and visit Gillette Stadium for the first time since 2021. While the Rapids don’t necessarily stand out in any particular statistical category, with 20 goals for and 25 against in 19 games, they have been steady on both the attacking and defending ends of the pitch.
KEY PLAYERS
Revolution attacker Tomás Chancalay
Since returning from an ACL injury in early April, Chancalay has worked on reintegrating himself into the Revolution attack. Heading into the weekend, Chancalay has started five straight games, notching two goals and one assist during that stretch.
On Wednesday night against Nashville, Chancalay contributed to both of New England’s goals, scoring one and assisting the other. With both Leo Campana and Luca Langoni returning from injury, Chancalay and the Revolution attack will be bolstered by an attacking depth that has been missing for much of the season.
Rapids midfielder Djordje Mihailovic
Following a goal on Wednesday night, Mihailovic earned a spot on the bench in the Matchday 20 Team of the Matchday. The attacking midfielder leads Colorado in goal contributions (11), with eight goals and three assists so far this season.
Mihailovic’s influence goes beyond finishing, as he also leads the Rapids with 52 key passes. That figure not only tops the team, but also ranks second across all of MLS. With Colorado’s attack running largely through him, New England will need to focus on shutting down Mihailovic.
