The Revs shook some rust off earlier this week, taking on Toronto FC in Gillette Stadium for their first game back in action since the league broke for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. While the match ultimately ended in a scoreless draw, the Revs walked away with a point. The result kept New England high in the Eastern Conference standings, still sitting fourth with 26 points through their first 15 games.
The Revolution continue to be one of the strongest defensive teams in the league, conceding just 18 goals so far this season. They earned their fourth clean sheet of 2026 against Toronto FC and rank as the second-best defensive side in the East. As they take on Atlanta, they will look to build on their attack after going goalless in their last two games. In their last four meetings with Atlanta, the Revs have taken consecutive wins and scored seven goals while conceding just two.

Atlanta currently sit just above the bottom of both the Eastern Conference and the league, having earned just 12 points in their first 16 games. The Five Stripes have claimed only three wins so far this season, with just one coming on the road. Their slow start has largely been due to struggles on the attack. With only 16 goals this season, Atlanta are the lowest-scoring team in the league.
Since returning from the World Cup break, Atlanta have shown signs of improvement. While they did not pick up a three-point result in either match, a narrow 1-0 loss to Nashville SC and a 2-2 draw in Charlotte showed a renewed fighting spirit from the Five Stripes. Their two goals against Charlotte were their first multi-goal performance since the start of May.
KEY PLAYERS
Revolution midfielder Carles Gil
Carles Gil has been one of the main drivers in the Revolution’s success this season. The midfielder leads the team in goal contributions with five goals and four assists. He also tops the roster with a 4.29 xG and 39 key passes. As long as Gil continues in his current form, he’ll be a key player in the Revolution attack.
Gil earned his fifth MLS All-Star selection this season, becoming the third Revolution player to collect five selections, joining Shalrie Joseph (8) and Taylor Twellman (5). Along with Nashville's Hany Mukhtar, Gil's five MLS All-Star nods are tied for the most in this year's roster. Motivated by the honor, Gil is expected to continue his All-Star performances for the Revs.
Atlanta midfielder Miguel Almiron
Miguel Almiron has returned to Atlanta after representing Paraguay on the World Cup’s biggest stage. The midfielder started all four matches for his country and helped Paraguay reach the Round of 16, giving him momentum to carry into club play.
Last season, Almiron led the Five Stripes in goal contributions with six goals and seven assists, and he currently leads the team with three assists through 10 appearances. He opened his 2026 account in Atlanta’s last outing against Charlotte FC, scoring the equalizer in the 76th minute of the Southern rivalry match.

Head coach Marko Mitrović on his expectations for Atlanta United FC after securing a 2-1 victory over them back in April:
“I think [Atlanta United FC] look very different than they looked at the very beginning of the season when we met them the first time in Atlanta. They always have very good organization on the field, both attacking and defending, but I feel that they have a much more positive energy now on the field with togetherness, and they play with a higher intensity. In their game against Nashville [on July 17], they lost 1-0, they definitely earned a better result in that game. Then last night against Charlotte, they came back from being down, 2-0. It’s the kind of good vibes that I can feel and see on their team, so that is something that is probably the bigger difference compared to the first game when we met them in Atlanta.”
Mitrović on how the team is approaching the quick turnaround ahead of Saturday’s match:
“It’s very important, first of all, to recover the guys that played last night. Actually, that’s something that we talked about today; how we can refresh our team in every direction and what kind of rotations we can also make to keep the same level of the quality in the game, while keeping the same intensity in the game, that is needed.”
Midfielder Carles Gil on how MLS and the World Cup can help grow soccer in the United States:
“I think the World Cup helps the country in many things. For example, yesterday I saw some guys from Spain. They were here for the World Cup, but they stayed in Boston for yesterday’s game. So, hopefully it can help the country have more fans. I think MLS has very good fans. In almost every stadium you go to, they’re pushing for the team. We’re in a good point, but for sure we will keep going.”
