Collin Verfurth Revolution II

Collin Verfurth was among the first four players signed to the Revolution II inaugural roster on January 7. After spending his rookie season with Loudoun United FC in the USL Championship, where he played under current Revolution assistant coach Richie Williams, Verfurth saw action in all four Revolution II preseason contests, including starts in three of those games. Let’s learn more about the Revolution II center back.

1. Virginia Soccer Star

Verfurth hails from Ashburn, Virginia where he attended Briar Woods High School. A four-year varsity letter winner, Verfurth helped lead his team to a state semifinals appearance as a junior in 2013. Verfurth stayed in-state to start his collegiate career, opting to attend Virginia Tech over other top choices William & Mary and Notre Dame. He became an instant contributor for the Hokies and finished his NCAA career with 72 appearances and nine goals, five of which were game winners.

2. Primetime Performer

Verfurth’s collegiate career at Virginia Tech culminated with a pair of NCAA Tournament berths in 2016 and 2017. As a junior in 2016, Verfurth and the Hokies made one of their deepest tournament runs in program history, progressing to the quarterfinals for just the second time. That campaign included an overtime win against Indiana in the Sweet Sixteen, one of Verfurth’s favorite memories in his soccer career.

3. Rising Stock

A finance major in college, Verfurth remains thoroughly interested in economics and the stock market. Verfurth became interested in stocks from his father, who works in finance, and his two older brothers who were both business majors. Verfurth uses his free time to keep track of the stock market and making investments, while staying up to date by reading The Wall Street Journal and other news sites on a daily basis.

4. Sharp-shooter

Verfurth was a three-sport athlete growing up, showing elite potential in both lacrosse and basketball. Basketball was an early passion, as Verfurth played AAU and high school hoops early until his sophomore season until setting aside competitive basketball and lacrosse to focus more on his soccer career. However, Verfurth still likes to play light pick-up basketball with friends during the offseason.
