FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – MLSsoccer.com announced today it has named five New England Revolution players to its Team of the Week for Week 4. Head Coach Jay Heaps was also recognized on the list as Week 4’s top head coach following the Revolution’s 5-2 win in the home opener vs. Minnesota United FC on March 25.
Defender Chris Tierney, midfielders Lee Nguyen and Diego Fagundez, and forwards Juan Agudelo and Kei Kamara all earned selections to the Week 4 Team of the Week. Agudelo recorded a brace in the home opener while Kamara added his 87th career MLS goal. Nguyen netted his second penalty kick of the season to move into a tie for second place on the Revs’ all-time goal scoring list. Tierney also tallied on a penalty and recorded an assist in his 200th career MLS start. Fagundez helped spark much of the attack in Saturday’s victory, finishing with one assist.
Heaps’ team extended its home winning streak at Gillette Stadium to five games, beginning last season with a win vs. Colorado on Sept. 3, 2016. The Revolution offense has been dynamic since Heaps implemented the 4-4-2 formation at the end of the 2016 campaign, having now scored at least three goals in each of the team’s last four home games. New England is now averaging 3.2 goals per game during the home winning streak.
The Revolution will be back in action this Sunday, April 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET as the club travels to face the Portland Timbers on ESPN2. The match may also be heard locally on the radio at 98.5 The Sports Hub, with Brad Feldman and Paul Mariner calling the action, or on 1570 WMVX Nossa Radio in Portuguese.
