New England Revolution Lineup Notes | October 7 vs. Toronto FC

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (5-3-7, 22 pts.) are set to host Toronto FC (9-2-4, 31 pts.) tonight at Gillette Stadium for the second meeting this season between the two Eastern Conference sides. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and airs locally on NBC Sports Boston, as well as on the radio at 98.5 The Sports Hub and WBIX 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA. Here is a closer look at New England’s lineup for Wednesday’s contest:

Lineup Notes:

  • New England’s lineup features two changes from its most recent Starting XI on Oct. 3 vs. Nashville. Adam Buksa replaces Gustavo Bou, and Diego Fagundez replaces Teal Bunbury.
  • The defensive quartet of DeJuan JonesHenry KesslerAndrew Farrell, and Brandon Bye is making its seventh start together this season, and its third in a row after keeping clean sheets in the last two matches.
  • Scott Caldwell will wear the captain’s armband for New England to start tonight’s match, his fifth consecutive start at central midfield. The eighth-year player registered 90-minute shifts in each of the last four contests en route to a 2-0-2 record.
  • Lee Nguyen, who is celebrating his 34th birthday on Wednesday, is set to make his 250th regular season MLS appearance tonight.
  • Nguyen (51G/49A) needs one assist to become the first player in Revolution history to register 50 goals and 50 assists with the club.
  • Adam Buksa returns to the Starting XI for the first time since Sept. 6. Buksa ranks second on the team in shots (57) and shots on goal (12), and third in goals (3).
  • Ontario native Tajon Buchanan has earned his fifth consecutive start, a career high, and the second career start against his hometown club. The second-year attacker played 90 minutes in the scoreless draw against the Reds on July 21.
  • Diego Fagundez will make his first start since Sept. 6. The appearance marks his 256th in MLS regular season play, second most in club history and only six shy of Shalrie Joseph’s club record.
  • Fagundez has four career regular season goals and one assist against Toronto, tied with Teal Bunbury for the lead among active Revolution players.
  • Right back Brandon Bye maintains his place as the only Revolution player to start every game this season. The team leader in minutes played (1,293) is also tied for third league-wide with 111 duels won.
  • Henry Kessler is set to make his 16th appearance of the season and 13th start, both of which lead all 2020 MLS SuperDraft selections. Kessler ranks second among all MLS rookies in minutes played and leads the team in clearances (59) and interceptions (23).
  • DeJuan Jones will register his season-high third consecutive start at left back tonight after helping the team to clean sheets the last two times on the pitch.

  • Cristian Penilla has scored three goals in five appearances against Toronto. He currently leads the team in assists (4).
  • Kelyn Rowe also has four career goals against Toronto, most among active Revs, to go with three goals in the series.
