Revolution II Game Preview: New England vs. Richmond Kickers

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution II (0-1-2, 2 pts.) returns home to play their first of three games in over the next eight days hosting Richmond Kickers (2-1-1, 7 pts.) at Gillette Stadium on Friday night. The contest kicks off at 7:00 p.m. ET and is available nationally on ESPN+, and internationally on YouTube.


Richmond is unbeaten in its last three matches, including consecutive wins at home in each of its last two matches. Last Saturday, the Kickers knocked off visiting FC Tucson, 2-1, thanks to a game-winning strike in the first half by Emiliano Terzaghi. The Richmond striker ranks second in the league with three goals already this season.


New England was also in action last weekend, earning a draw on the road against defending USL League One Champion North Texas SC, 3-3. Homegrown Player Nicolas Firmino scored the first goal in club history in the 16th minute while fellow Homegrown midfielder Isaac Angking bagged a brace, briefly putting New England ahead in the 79th minute with a long-range strike.


Defender Colby Quinones made history as the first active Revolution Academy player to start in a professional match for the club, playing all 90 minutes at right back. Academy teammates Hikaru Fujiwara and Morris Matthews also made their Revolution II debuts on Saturday as substitutes, with Fujiwara recording his first-career assist.


WHAT TO WATCH FOR against Richmond Kickers:


  • Several Revolution first-team players continuing to see action in League One play, including Isaac Angking, Damian Rivera, Nicolas Firmino, and Collin Verfurth.
  • Goalkeeper Joe Rice aiming facing his former club for the first time after spending the 2019 season with Richmond and playing collegiately in the city at Virginia Commonwealth University.
  • Defender Collin Verfurth maintaining his league-leading six clearance per game average.
  • Midfielder Isaac Angking adding to his team-leading two goals this season following a two-goal outburst against North Texas SC last week.
