Diego Fagundez and eMLS competitor John Oliveira to compete in eMLS tournament special

DL - eMLS Tournament

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder Diego Fagundez and the Revolution’s eMLS competitor John Oliveira, also known by his gamertag JKO1707, will represent the club in the eMLS Tournament Special presented by Coca-Cola and PlayStation, announced today by Major League Soccer and FOX Sports. The five-episode series, which teams MLS and eMLS players from the same club in single-elimination EA SPORTSTM FIFA 20 tournaments, will feature Fagundez and Oliveira competing against players from D.C. United in the second episode on Sunday, April 26, at 7:00 p.m. ET on FS1 and Fox Deportes.

The eMLS Tournament Special is part of MLS Unites, a league-wide platform designed to educate communities, entertain fans, and elevate heroic efforts taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Following each episode, MLS WORKS and FOX Sports will each make a donation on behalf of the winning club to Feeding America®, with MLS also supporting Food Banks Canada. All episodes will take place on an entirely remote basis with players competing from their homes.

Fagundez enters the esports arena with 10 years of MLS experience, all with the Revolution. The 25-year-old currently ranks among the club’s top five all-time in games played, goals, and assists, and is only five helpers away from being the Revs’ first 50-goal and 50-assist player. The Leominster, Mass. native signed as the club’s first ever Homegrown Player in 2011 and entered the 2020 campaign as the club’s longest-tenured player.

Oliveira, 26, is in his third season as the Revolution’s first ever eMLS competitor, having initially signed ahead of the inaugural 2018 eMLS campaign. The Oak Bluffs, Mass. product and University of Massachusetts Boston student re-signed with the club in December 2019, and brings more than 15 years of competitive FIFA experience.
