FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (3-8-2, 11 pts.) defeated the San Jose Earthquakes, 3-1, before a crowd of 20,610 at Gillette Stadium on Saturday evening. In Interim Head Coach Mike Lapper's first game at the helm, the Revolution snapped a four-game winless run thanks to first-half goals from Juan Agudelo and Cristian Penilla, and a second-half tally from Carles Gil.

Agudelo opened the scoring in the 18th minute, when he finished off a cross from Edgar Castillo with a right-footed volley. Penilla, who was credited with the secondary assist on Agudelo's goal, doubled New England's lead 11 minutes later with a penalty kick. Carles Gil added an insurance tally in the 68th minute – giving him four goals in his debut MLS season. His four goals are tied for third most among all MLS newcomers, trailing only Toronto FC's Alejandro Pozuelo and Orlando City SC's Nani.

Goalkeeper Matt Turner, making his second start of the season, registered six saves in the win to equal his single-game high. Playing in front of Turner at center back for the fourth time this season, Andrew Farrell eclipsed Steve Ralston for fifth most games started in club history with 197.

New England returns to action on Wednesday, May 15, when the club hosts English Premier League side Chelsea FC in the 'Final Whistle on Hate' charity match. The match kicks off at 8:00 p.m. ET on FS1, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and in Portuguese on 1260 AM Nossa Radio.
