FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (3-8-2, 11 pts.) defeated the San Jose Earthquakes, 3-1, before a crowd of 20,610 at Gillette Stadium on Saturday evening. In Interim Head Coach Mike Lapper's first game at the helm, the Revolution snapped a four-game winless run thanks to first-half goals from Juan Agudelo and Cristian Penilla, and a second-half tally from Carles Gil.

Agudelo opened the scoring in the 18^th minute, when he finished off a cross from Edgar Castillo with a right-footed volley. Penilla, who was credited with the secondary assist on Agudelo's goal, doubled New England's lead 11 minutes later with a penalty kick. Carles Gil added an insurance tally in the 68^th minute – giving him four goals in his debut MLS season. His four goals are tied for third most among all MLS newcomers, trailing only Toronto FC's Alejandro Pozuelo and Orlando City SC's Nani.

Goalkeeper Matt Turner, making his second start of the season, registered six saves in the win to equal his single-game high. Playing in front of Turner at center back for the fourth time this season, Andrew Farrell eclipsed Steve Ralston for fifth most games started in club history with 197.

New England returns to action on Wednesday, May 15, when the club hosts English Premier League side Chelsea FC in the 'Final Whistle on Hate' charity match. The match kicks off at 8:00 p.m. ET on FS1, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and in Portuguese on 1260 AM Nossa Radio.

Revs Defeat San Jose Earthquakes, 3-1

• The Revolution defeated the San Jose Earthquakes, 3-1, on Saturday, improving the club’s record to 3-8-2 (11 pts.) through 13 games of the 2019 MLS season.
• New England's all-time record against San Jose moves to 15-20-8, including a 9-10-3 mark in games played in Foxborough.

Penilla Registers Second Game-Winning Goal of 2019; Adds Assist

• Forward Cristian Penilla recorded his fourth career MLS game with both a goal and an assist. His assist on Juan Agudelo's opening goal was his first of the season, while his goal – a penalty kick in the 29^th minute – was his second on the year and proved to be the game winner.
• On the season, Penilla owns 10 appearances, including five starts, with two goals and one assist.
• Penilla also scored the game-winning goal in New England's 1-0 win on March 20 vs. New York Red Bulls.

Gil Opens Gillette Stadium Account with Fourth Goal of Season

• Midfielder Carles Gil scored his first career goal at Gillette Stadium in the 68^th minute, giving him four tallies on the season.
• Gil's four goals are tied for third most among MLS newcomers with Salt Lake's Sam Johnson and Minnesota's Angelo Rodriguez. He trails only Toronto's Alejandro Pozuelo (5) and Orlando's Nani (5).
• In 90 minutes of action, Gil recorded one shot on target, 50 touches, three tackles, and an 84.8 percent passing accuracy clip.

Agudelo Registers Second Goal of Season

• Forward Juan Agudelo scored his second goal of the season, and his second in the team's last four games, by finishing off a cross from Edgar Castillo in the 18^th minute.
• Agudelo contributed a strong performance across the field, pacing the team in chances created (2), total passes (35), touches (55), total duels (14), total aerial duels (8), interceptions (3), and possession gained (8).
• On the season, he owns 11 appearances, including nine starts, two goals, and one assist.

Rookie Buchanan Continues to Create

• First-round SuperDraft selection Tajon Buchanan saw 24 minutes of action as a second-half substitute and registered the assist on Carles Gil’s 68^th minute strike. He now has two assists on the year in seven appearances, with three starts.
• Entering the match, Buchanan ranked second among all MLS rookies with 278 minutes played this season, and tonight raised his total to 302 minutes. He trails only teammate DeJuan Jones, also taken in the first round of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, who now has 400 minutes played on the year.

Turner Ties Career Best with Six Saves

• Goalkeeper Matt Turner earned his second consecutive start in net and totaled six saves on the night to tie a single-game career high.
• Turner has now recorded six saves on three different occasions. The last time he made at least six stops in a match was on May 30, 2018 vs. Atlanta United FC.

• The Revolution's starting lineup saw four changes from Wednesday's match at Chicago, with Cristian Penilla, Juan Agudelo, Teal Bunbury, and Brandon Bye replacing Juan Fernando Caicedo, Tajon Buchanan, DeJuan Jones, and Antonio Delamea.
