Academy Update | Spring season continues with all five teams in action

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy continued its spring season last weekend as all five teams continued their campaigns. The Under-19s, Under-17s, and Under-15s traveled to Stamford, Conn. to battle Beachside SC on March 23, while the Under-14s and Under-13s hosted NEFC at Gillette Stadium on March 24.


All five Academy teams will return to action on Sunday, March 31 when they will travel to Queens, N.Y. to face the Academy teams of New York City FC at Belson Stadium.


WEEKHIGHLIGHTS


  • Defender Tyler Freitas (North Attleborough, Mass.—2000) scored his second goal of the week in the U-19s’ 2-2 road draw with Beachside SC in the 17th minute of Saturday’s contest. Freitas spent the winter in preseason training with the first team and has committed to play for the University of Vermont where he will join his brother and fellow Academy product, Justin Freitas.
  • Midfielder Trevor Burns (Southborough, Mass.—2001) also scored his second goal of the week in the U-19s’ 2-2 road draw with Beachside United. Burns played 90 minutes in Saturday’s road test in Stamford, Conn. 
  • Forward Malcolm Fry (Groton, Mass.—2005) tallied a brace in the U-14s’ 5-2 home win over NEFC on Sunday, March 24. Fry opened the game’s scoring with a second-minute strike before adding a second mark in the 18th minute.
  • Goalkeeper Michael Delaney (Halifax, Mass.—2006) recorded a shutout in the U-13s’ 5-0 win over NEFC on Sunday, March 24 at Gillette Stadium. Delaney made four saves in the win.
  • Forward Olger Escobar (Malden, Mass.—2006) notched his second brace of the season after scoring two goals against NEFC in the U-13s’ 5-0 win at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, March 24. 
  • Forward Jordi Tornberg (Revere, Mass.—2006) also tallied his second brace of the spring season after adding two strikes of his own in the U-13s’ 5-0 win over NEFC on Sunday, March 24.
