Academy Update | U17s, U15s kick off spring schedule at Generation adidas Cup

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy began the 2019 portion of its season last weekend as two teams continued their participation in the Generation adidas Cup Regional Tournament in Atlanta, Ga. The Under-17s and Under-15s each saw action at the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground between Feb. 15-18.


All five Academy teams will return to action on Saturday, March 16 when the Revolution Academy hosts Seacoast United at Gillette Stadium to kick off the spring portion of the 2018-19 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season.


WEEKHIGHLIGHTS


  • Forward Andrew Serafino (East Longmeadow, Mass.—2003) scored his ninth goal of the 2018-19 campaign for the U-17s on a 24th-minute penalty kick in a 2-2 (4-3) loss to D.C. United.
  • Midfielder Hikaru Fujiwara (Lexington, Mass.—2003) scored his third goal of the season in the 44th minute of the 2-2 (4-3) loss to D.C. United. He also converted his attempt in the penalty shootout portion of the loss. 
  • Goalkeeper Matthew Tibbetts (Westborough, Mass.—2004) notched a shutout in the U-15s’ 1-0 win over Orlando City on Friday, Feb. 15. Tibbetts also recorded the win in the team’s 3-1 victory over D.C. United on Monday, Feb. 18. 
  • Midfielder Ethan Williams (Fall River, Mass.—2002) scored the opening goal for the U-17s in the team’s 3-2 loss to Orlando City on Friday, Feb. 15.
  • Forward Chase Lando (Littleton, Mass.—2004) scored the opening goal and his third strike of the year in the U-15s’ 3-1 victory over D.C. United.
  • Forward Dave Doirain (Marlborough, Mass.—2004) scored the lone goal in the U-15s’ 1-0 victory over Orlando City on Friday, Feb. 15. He also tallied an assist in the U-15s’ 3-1 victory over D.C. United.
