CURRENT FORM
New England Revolution
11th in Eastern Conference (6-9-7, 25 pts.)
Last Result | 5-3 loss at New York Red Bulls
Thus far it’s been a difficult summer stretch for the Revs, who are winless in seven (0-5-2) since the start of June after seeing a 2-0 halftime lead slip away on Wednesday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium, suffering a 5-3 loss to the Red Bulls. Still, the Revs enter the weekend seven points back of the playoff line in the Eastern Conference and with a game in hand on the teams in both eighth and ninth place.
Having struggled to win at home this season with a 2-5-2 record at Gillette Stadium, the Revolution are at a crucial point of the campaign. With the next four games at home, New England will need to find more wins in Foxborough to climb the table, reclaim playoff contention, and maintain their performance throughout all 90 minutes of a match.
Orlando City SC
6th in Eastern Conference (9-6-8, 35 pts.)
Last Result | 2-1 loss vs. NYCFC
Similarly, Orlando gave up a halftime lead in their most recent match, falling 2-1 to New York City FC in the final minutes of Wednesday’s game. The Lions are now winless in their last four, going 0-2-2. While they have struggled to find three-point results recently, Orlando have been strong on the road with a 4-2-5 away record so far this season.
The Florida team are tied with Nashville SC as the third-highest scoring team in the East, banking 41 goals through 23 games. In their last meeting with the Revolution, Orlando put away three goals in what would be a goal-heavy 3-3 draw at Inter&Co Stadium.
KEY PLAYERS
Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf
Yusuf bagged his first MLS goal in Orlando earlier this season and has been an integral part of the Revolution midfield. While the season has had its ups and downs for the Revs, Yusuf has remained consistent game in and game out.
The midfielder has one goal and two assists this season, as he tails only Carles Gil in key passes for the Revolution in 2025. Looking to add another goal to his tally since he couldn’t properly celebrate his first as the Revs trailed Orlando at the time, Yusuf will be hungry to score again and help New England get back on the road to the playoffs.
Orlando midfielder Martín Ojeda
In the Revolution’s earlier meeting with Orlando this season, Ojeda scored a hat trick, securing all three goals for the Lions. In total, the midfielder has racked up a total of 20 goal contributions, including 10 goals and 10 assists.
Ojeda is among the league leaders in multiple attacking stats this season. He joins the leaderboard for most assists, shot assists, and successful crosses – proving that he is a key aspect of Orlando’s attacking threat.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
Head coach Caleb Porter on how the group has reflected on Wednesday night’s match and preparing for Saturday's game against Orlando City SC:
“I think it’s one of those where we know what happened. It was a tale of two halves. It was a great first half, one of the best of the year. Followed by a not good half, where we fell apart at 2-1. Some of that, I said it, I think had to do with fatigue. Some of it had to do with changes we had to make. We had some key guys out, as well. So, in the end, it doesn’t do any good to beat the dead horse. We have to move on from it, and it’s my belief that it won’t happen again. We have to reset mentally, recover physically, and throw everything into this game. That’s the most important thing, is that we get the three points versus Orlando.”
Midfielder Matt Polster on the opportunity of playing eight of the next 12 games at home:
“I think we went on a stretch during the year where we played really good [football] and we won a lot of games, and then now we’re in a little bit of a spell where we need to get out of it. But we have that opportunity in front of us. Like you said, eight of 12 to be at home and more than enough quality in this team and enough talent in this team to do that. So, we have a lot of opportunity, but we have to take it.”
Polster on the team’s leadership council meeting to maintain a strong mentality to work out of the current winless streak:
“I think when you’re in a ‘rut’ like this, obviously frustrations arise, but at the end of the day, you have to let those go. You can only control what you can control, which is the performances you put out. Right now, we as a group need to put out a really good performance against a good Orlando team at home, and start stringing some wins together at home, and being better and more difficult to play [against] at home. I don’t want to reflect too much about what’s going on in the past, I just want to reflect on what we can control in the future, and that’s putting together a good performance [against Orlando].”
