WASHINGTON, D.C. – The New England Revolution (7-9-8, 29 pts.) fell to D.C. United (7-9-6, 27 pts.), 2-0, at Audi Field on Sunday evening. D.C. United's Luciano Acosta scored the game's opening goal in 13th minute, when he beat Matt Turner to the near post with a left-footed shot, and Zoltan Stieber doubled the home side's lead in the 89th minute. The Revolution couldn't find an equalizer despite a second-half surge, and finished the match with 10 men after midfielder Scott Caldwell was issued a red card in the 73rd minute.


Defender Michael Mancienne made his Revolution and MLS debut in tonight's match. Mancienne, who signed with New England on Aug. 3 after four seasons with Nottingham Forest in the EFL Championship, began training with the club on Wednesday. A veteran of the English Premier League and German Bundesliga, he recorded four tackles, 55 touches, and an 88.1 passing accuracy rate against D.C. United.


New England returns to action next Saturday, Aug. 25, when it visits the Philadelphia Union at Talen Energy Stadium in the sides' third and final meeting of the season. The contest kicks off at 7:00 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Boston. Fans may also listen on the radio in English on 98.5 The Sports Hub and in Portuguese on 1260 AM Nossa Radio.

  • The Revolution fell to D.C. United, 2-0, on Sunday evening to move to 7-9-8 (29 points) on the season. The loss drops New England to 1-5-5 in away matches in 2018.
  • D.C. United improved its advantage in the all-time series, as the Revs drop to 27-34-12 in MLS play against the Black and Red.
  • Tonight's match marked the Revolution's first at Audi Field, which opened on July 14, 2018. 


Mancienne Makes Revolution & MLS Debut

  • Defender Michael Mancienne played all 90 minutes in central defense in his Revolution and MLS debut.
  • Mancienne, who started training with New England on Wednesday, signed with the club on Aug. 3 after four seasons with Nottingham Forest in the EFL Championship. His resume also includes time with Chelsea and Wolverhampton in the English Premier League, and Hamburger SV in Germany's Bundesliga. 
  • Mancienne registered 55 touches, four tackles, and an 88.1 passing accuracy rate in tonight's contest.


Caldwell Issued Red Card; Will Serve One-Game Suspension

  • Midfielder Scott Caldwell was issued his first career red card in the 73rd minute of tonight's match.
  • Caldwell was officially sent off for a second yellow card, having also been booked in the 56th minute for persistent infringement.
  • The midfielder will serve a one-game suspension during New England's match against Philadelphia on Aug. 25.


Revolution Make Two Changes to Starting XI

  • Revolution Head Coach Brad Friedel made two changes to the club’s starting lineup from its most recent match vs. Philadelphia on Aug. 11. Midfielder Scott Caldwell replaced midfielder Wilfried Zahibo, and defender Michael Mancienne replaced defender Jalil Anibaba.
