Recap: Revs battle San Antonio FC to 3-3 draw in Mobile Mini Sun Cup

TUCSON, Ariz. – The New England Revolution registered a second consecutive draw in the Mobile Mini Sun Cup in Tucson, Ariz., playing San Antonio FC to a 3-3 draw. A pair of first-half goals from Teal Bunbury and a headed conversion from Antonio Delamea saw the Revs record three consecutive goals to conclude the half. Brandon Bye, Scott Caldwell, and Brad Knighton all played 90 minutes, while Revolution Academy player Kevin Vang made his first appearance of the Mobile Mini Sun Cup after joining the Revs on Friday.

San Antonio FC's Sonny Guadarrama registered the first goal of the match in the 12th minute via the penalty spot, after Andrew Farrell fouled Jose Escalante in the 18-yard box. The Revs answered in the 22nd minute, however, as the Revolution’s high press caused a turnover, allowing Cristian Penilla to find an open Teal Bunbury in the 18-yard box. New England’s lead was extended in the 41st minute, as Teal Bunbury completed his brace, finishing a low cross sent into the box by Brandon Bye. Just prior to halftime, Antonio Delamea recorded his first goal of preseason by heading home a Diego Fagundez cross.

Following six Revolution halftime substitutions, San Antonio closed the two-goal deficit with Éver Guzmán scoring a pair of goals within a three-minute span. Following an 83rd minute foul on Femi Hollinger-Janzen in the attacking third, the Revs were presented with a free kick opportunity from a dangerous position, however, the cross proved too high for a Nicolas Samayoa headed attempt.

The Revolution will play two more preseason games in the Mobile Mini Sun Cup before kicking off the regular season at the Philadelphia Union on March 3. The club will return to action in Tucson on Wednesday, Feb. 21 against Sporting Kansas City, before closing out the tournament against an opponent to be determined on Saturday, Feb. 24.
