Youth Update: September 23, 2013

DL - Youth academy vs. BSC

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – All three of the New England Revolution’s youth teams earned victories against local rival FC Bolts Celtic last weekend, when they met at Regis College in Weston, Mass., on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Under-16s shut out the Bolts, 4-0, while the Under-18s and Under-14s topped , 2-1 and 3-2, respectively.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s earned a 2-1 victory against FC Bolts Celtic on Saturday. After the Revs claimed an early shout for a penalty, Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.) – assisted by Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) – scored in the 15th minute to give New England the lead. The Bolts answered in the 53rd minute, when Kenawy Mohamed converted against the run of play. Gissie and Apajee then combined again in the 83rd minute, with Gissie laying the ball off for Apajee, who tapped it in from inside the six. The Revolution had a solid team defensive performance, with Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) making an especially strong showing as he contained the Bolts’ aerial threats. Now 3-0-0 (9 pts.) on the season, the U18s lead the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with 3.00 points per game.

UNDER-16s

The Under-16s shut out FC Bolts Celtic, 4-0, on Saturday. Justin Freitas (North Attleboro, Mass.) netted New England’s first goal in the 30th minute, tapping in John Wilkins’ (Natick, Mass.) free kick rebound. Wilkins then scored on another free kick attempt in the 57th minute to make it 2-0. Santiago Cardona (Winthrop, Mass.) extended the Revs’ lead further in the 68th minute, combining with Derek Blanchette (Scituate, R.I.) to slip one by the Bolts’ goalkeeper. Freddy Stokes (Westhampton, Mass.) – assisted by Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) – scored the Revs’ final goal in the 75th minute, placing his shot inside the far post to make it 4-0. Revolution goalkeeper Bill Sinibaldi (Plaistow, N.H.) made three saves en route to the shut out. With a 1-1-1 (4 pts.) record, the Revs are currently in sixth place in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 1.33 points per game.

UNDER-14s

The Under-14s completed the day’s sweep of FC Bolts Celtic, earning a 3-2 win on Saturday. The Bolts took an early lead with an eighth-minute goal by Emmanuel Apau, but the Revs answered before the break. Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) got on the end Alex Shertenberg’s (Westwood, Mass.) cross and poked home a goal in the 26th minute to equalize. New England then scored the go-ahead goal in the 40th minute when Laszlo Dorogi (West Boylston, Mass.) finished a pass from Amos Shapiro (Worthington, Mass.). In the 65th minute, Jones scored his second goal in the game, which was assisted by Issac Angking (Providence, R.I.). The Revs gave up a late consolation goal to the Bolts in the 78th, scored by Franz Pierrot, but still claimed the one-goal win. The Under-14s are 1-1-0 (3 pts.) on the season.

All three of the Revolution’s youth teams are on the road this coming weekend, when they will meet fellow MLS side the New York Red Bulls in Whippany, N.J., on Sunday, Sept. 29.
