Youth Teams Playoff Recap: June 26 (U16s)

Youth

FRISCO, Texas – The New England Revolution Under-16 team played its second game of the 2012-13 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase on Wednesday, suffering a 4-0 loss to Real Colorado’s Under-18 team.

Real Colorado’s Thomas Migaki opened scoring in the 19th minute, sending his effort past Revolution goalkeeper Bruce Johnson (Brewster, Mass.). New England created several chances before the break but remained in a hole at halftime. Amid a series of second-half substitutions, U14 goalkeeper Trey Miller (Monson, Mass.) entered the game in the 55th minute. Shortly after, the Revs had a shout for a penalty kick when Steven Duncan (Barrington, R.I.) was brought down in the 58th minute, but the referee signaled for a free kick to be taken outside of the box. Wes Turner (Newton, Mass.) took the resulting free kick, but his service was long. A pair of Colorado goals in the 73rd and 74th minutes from Sam Tweeton and Sawyer Edwards, respectively, further increased the Revs’ deficit, and a 79th-minute goal by Gannon Gardner brought the final score to 4-0 in Real Colorado’s favor.

On Thursday, both the Under-18s and Under-16s will be in action. The U18s will take on the LA Galaxy in their final game of the Playoffs at 10 a.m. ET. The U16s will then play the Montreal Impact in their final game of the Showcase at 2 p.m. ET.
