Revs, Taylor Twellman launch instructional series

Taylor Twellman 2002 - 2010

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Taylor Twellman ended his playing career as the New England Revolution’s all-time leader in goal scoring and one of Major League Soccer’s top goal scorers ever, and now he wants to help the club develop top scorers in the New England region.

Twellman and the Revolution have announced a partnership through the Revolution Academy in which the record-setting striker will lead several summer programs aimed at providing elite goal-scoring coaching and instruction. Led by Academy Director Deven Apajee, the Revolution Academy, presented by United Healthcare, is the club’s integrated youth instructional and coaching program that spans New England with programs for all players’ age levels and skill levels.

Two separate programs have been announced: Revolution Academy Goal Scoring School featuring Taylor Twellman (Boys & Girls: July 10-12) and the Revolution Academy-Taylor Twellman High School Elite Preseason Training Week (Boys: Aug. 8-11, Girls: Aug. 15-18).

“There is no name more synonymous with goal scoring in this region than Taylor Twellman, and we’re very excited to partner with him on this new instructional series,” Revolution Chief Operating Officer Brian Bilello said. “He inspired a generation of players in this region, and they witnessed Taylor score more than 100 goals for the Revs to become one of the league’s all-time greatest goal scorers. We’re looking forward to Taylor imparting his experience and expertise on the players who come to these training programs.”

The Revolution Academy Goal Scoring School featuring Taylor Twellman will take place in Foxborough at the Dana-Farber Field House on the grounds of Gillette Stadium. Boys and girls, ages 7-13, will train three days with Twellman and the Revolution Academy staff. Additionally, each participant will receive two tickets to see the Revolution face Manchester United on Wednesday, July 13.

The Revolution Academy-Taylor Twellman High School Elite Preseason Training Week will be held in Mansfield, Mass., at the Mansfield Youth Soccer Turf Complex. Two separate week-long programs will be offered – one week for boys and one week for girls – for players ages 14-17. In addition to daily instruction by Twellman and the Revolution Academy coaches, participants will also receive daily instruction from current and former professional players, and will also receive two tickets to a Revolution match this summer.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the young players in the area that have supported me and the Revolution throughout the years,” Twellman said. “It will be an honor to wear the Revs badge again while helping young players improve their goal-scoring skills and our area’s high school players get ready for preseason.

“I have known Deven for many years, and seen first-hand the great work that he's done with the Academy, and I’m looking forward to working with him enhancing the Revolution Academy product for our region’s young players,” Twellman continued.

All participants of the Goal Scoring School and the High School Elite Preseason Training Week will receive a shirt, soccer ball, players guide with Taylor’s Tip, and be recognized on the field at Gillette Stadium at a game later this summer.

Goal Scoring School participants will receive signed Twellman photos, while the High School Elite Preseason Training Week participants will also take part in a college preparation seminar to help with the college selection process.
