FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution’s Under-14 side took part in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase last week, playing three games in the space of four days. The U14s first beat De Anza Force (California), 2-1, on Friday, June 13, before falling to a 3-2 defeat to Real So Cal (California) on Saturday, June 14, and slipping to a 2-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union (Pennsylvania) on Monday, June 16. All three games were held at the Grand Parks Sports Campus in Westfield, Indiana.

The Under-14s began their showcase with a dramatic late win against De Anza Force, on the back of Joe Brito’s (Bolton, Conn.) game-winner in the second minute of second-half stoppage time. The Revs started the game well and went ahead in the 24th minute when Isaac Angking (Providence, R.I.) caused a turnover and slipped a pass behind the De Anza defense for Christian Schifano (Sudbury, Mass.) to latch onto and fire into the lower left corner. The U14s were pegged back as De Anza equalized through Arda Bulut in the 62nd minute, but Brito had the final say. Laz Dorogi (West Boylston, Mass.) whipped in a cross which Chris Ciullo (Mansfield, Mass.) controlled into Brito’s path. Brito then made no mistake with a first-time finish. Revs goalkeeper Eddie Walsh (Westwood, Mass.) made three saves on the day.

The Under-14s dropped their second match on a late game-winner as Real So Cal posted a 3-2 win over the Revs on Saturday. The U14s found themselves two goals down before halftime, as Wilson Harris and Jake Kemhadjin put Real So Cal ahead. The Revs came out strong in the second half and pulled a goal back in the 50th minute as Evan Glass (Boxford, Mass.) lobbed a ball over the Real So Cal defense and Schifano was on hand to volley the ball into the lower right corner. The Revs equalized in the 65th minute, as Travis Van Brewer (Wilbraham, Mass.) converted a penalty kick opportunity after Dorogi had been fouled in the area. However, Real So Cal’s Jason Manning scored the game-winner in the final minute of play to hand the opponents the victory. The Revs put up 11 shots on the day and goalkeeper Trey Miller (Monson, Mass.) made four saves in the loss.

The Under-14s closed out the Showcase on Monday, suffering a 2-0 defeat to fellow MLS academy side, the Philadelphia Union. The U14s fell behind early as Anthony Fontana scored in the 11th minute before adding his second goal in the 45th minute to extend the Union’s lead. Miller made three saves on the day.

The three games at the Showcase closed out the Under-14s’ season as they went 15-7-3 overall on the season. The Revolution’s Under-18 and Under-16 sides both travel to Westfield, Ind., on Sunday, June 22, as the U18s enter the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs and the U16s prepare to take part in the Development Academy Showcase. The U18s are scheduled to face the Houston Dynamo (Texas) on Monday, June 23, Chivas USA (California) on Tuesday, June 24, and the Capital Area RailHawks Academy (North Carolina) on Thursday, June 26.
