FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – On Saturday, March 23, the New England Revolution’s youth teams swept their opponents in matches played at Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass. Overall, the teams went 3-0-0 as the Under-14s shut out FC Westchester, 2-0, while the Under-18s and Under-16s topped BW Gottschee, 2-1 and 3-1, respectively.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s earned a 2-1 draw victory against BW Gottschee on Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak to 11 games. New England scored first in 26th minute after the backline found Ryan Rose (Acton, Mass.) on the right wing. Rose beat his defender and sent a cross in to Leandro Alves (Pawtucket, R.I.), who headed it home. BW Gottschee’s David Amiranashvili equalized in the 59th minute, but the Revs regained the advantage in the 77th. Willis Griffith (Amherst, N.H.) played a long pass into space for forward Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.) and his left-footed cross volleyed into the back of the net by Alves. Now 9-2-2 (29 pts.), the U18s are ranked second in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 2.23 points per game.

UNDER-16s

The Under-16s topped BW Gottschee, 3-1, on Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak to five games. The Revs went up early, when Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) scored the first of his two goals on the day in the fifth minute. Amadu Kunateh (Lynn, Mass.) sent a low cross in, where Apajee connected, making a near-post run. Kunateh then combined with Wes Turner (Newton, Mass.), who scored in the 45th minute to double the Revs’ advantage going into halftime. On the other side of the break, BW Gottschee was awarded a penalty kick, which Matt Scimemi converted in the 52nd minute to make the score 2-1. In the 78th minute, Matt Morana (Shrewsbury, Mass.) sent a cross inside the 18-yard box, where Apajee was waiting to bury his second goal, bringing the final score to 3-1. With their 7-2-4 (25 pts.) record, the U16s are currently fourth in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 1.92 points per game.

UNDER-14s

The Under-14s shut out FC Westchester, 2-0, on Saturday, improving their U.S. Club Soccer record to 7-2-0 (21 pts.). Justin Rennicks (S. Hamilton, Mass.) scored a goal, assisted by Freddy Stokes (Westhampton, Mass.), in the fifth minute to give New England an early lead. Matt Ranieri (Natick, Mass.) then combined with Jack O’Brien (Milton, Mass.) in the 13th minute to make it 2-0, which held through to the final whistle. The U14s are currently riding a three-game unbeaten streak and have posted two consecutive shutouts in that span. With 2.33 points per game, the Revs currently sit in third place in U.S. Club Soccer’s 20-team Northeast Pre-Academy League.
