The Case for Carles | The eyes (and the numbers) say Gil is a clear-cut MLS All-Star

Carles Gil goal celebration

You’d be hard-pressed to find a better MLS All-Star candidate than Carles Gil, and frankly, it shouldn’t take much convincing to get him there. The Revolution captain has been a top-shelf playmaker since his arrival in 2019, making waves not just in New England, but leaguewide – scoring goals, creating chances, and wowing crowds year after year.

The crafty midfielder has already racked up 10 goal contributions (six goals, four assists) this season – all in the last 11 games – and is set to visit Q2 Stadium on July 12 when the Revs face Austin FC in regular season play, but that shouldn’t be Gil’s only visit to the Lone Star State in July. Vote now to send Gil back to Austin just 11 days later, this time in an MLS All-Star jersey for the match against the LIGA MX All-Stars on July 23.

If his performances for the Revolution this season haven’t been enough reason for Gil to be among the best in the league in late July, here are five more reasons for Gil’s worthiness:

Gil is a game winner

Currently tied for second leaguewide in game-winning goals, Gil has proven time and again that he pulls through when it matters most. Of his four game winners this season, two have been scored in the final 15 minutes to put the Revs over the top.

He’s a seasoned MLS All-Star

With three MLS All-Star selections already under his belt, Gil knows exactly what is needed to shine on the All-Star stage. Not to mention, he has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday five times in 2025.

He’s one of the best chance creators in MLS … and beyond

Gil’s 88 shot-creating actions are third-most in MLS (despite playing two fewer games than most of the league), while his 6.71 shot-creating actions per 90 minutes rank him in the 99th percentile in that category amongst players in his position across 14 different comparable leagues, according to FBRef.

FBRef also ranks Gil in the 99th percentile in both progressive passes (11.68 per 90 mins) and progressive carries (5.19 per 90 mins), and in the 92nd percentile in Expected Assisted Goals (0.23 per 90 mins).

Gil is a leader on and off the pitch

Gil has captained the Revolution since his arrival in New England in 2019. He’s someone that players and coaches trust to consistently have a winning mentality and lead by example.

He is already recognized as one of the best players in MLS

Gil has already been mentioned, listed, and graded on multiple MLS MVP rankings this season, and with him in contention to be crowned the best player in the league, how could he not join the squad of All-Stars? The Spaniard was bestowed the MLS MVP title in 2021, after he led the Revolution to a Supporters’ Shield, clocked a league-leading 18 assists, and scored four goals.

If that’s not enough evidence to earn Carles Gil your vote this year, you need to go watch some Revolution highlights from this season. Gil’s talent has never been in question, and neither should his spot on the All-Star roster.

Ahead of the July 23 match against Mexico’s best, voting for the MLS squad will end at 11:59 p.m. PT on June 11. Be sure to clock your votes before kickoff at Q2 stadium.
