FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (August 9, 2026) – New England Revolution II have signed Revolution Academy forward/winger Makai Wells to a one-year MLS NEXT Pro professional contract through June 30, 2027. Wells, 17, becomes the 17th player to sign a professional contract with Revolution II directly from the Revolution Academy.
Wells joined the Revolution Academy ahead of the 2025-26 MLS NEXT season, featuring for the Under-18 team while also appearing for Revolution II via an Amateur Agreement. In his sole season with New England's academy, the attacker recorded one goal and one assist. Prior to his time with the Revolution Academy, Wells was a standout for the Barca Residency Academy during the 2024-25 MLS NEXT season, netting 27 goals and adding seven assists.
A native of Washington, D.C., Wells made his professional debut with Revolution II on August 31, 2025. He has since made 11 MLS NEXT Pro appearances, including nine starts, with one goal scored. Wells netted his first professional goal earlier this season, opening the scoring for Revolution II against FC Cincinnati 2 on March 15 en route to a 2-1 win.
On the international stage, Wells has suited up for the United States Under-17 squad. Wells has made four appearances for the Stars and Stripes in international friendlies, highlighted by a full 90-minute performance against Northern Ireland on October 11, 2025.

Wells becomes the latest Revolution Academy product to enter the professional ranks through Revolution II, joining an accomplished group of Academy graduates that includes Peyton Miller, Malcolm Fry, Damario McIntosh, Eric Klein, Cristiano Oliveira, and Javaun Mussenden. Since Revolution II’s inaugural season in 2020, 55 Academy players have made their professional soccer debuts with New England’s developmental team.
Revolution II continues their 2026 campaign this afternoon, traveling to CT United FC. The match kicks off at 4:00 p.m. ET at Reese Stadium and will stream live on MLSNEXTPro.com and the OneFootball platform.
