Revolution re-sign forward Juan Agudelo to multi-year contract

DL - Juan Agudelo

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have re-signed forward Juan Agudelo to a multi-year contract, the club announced today. The Revolution's eighth all-time leading goal scorer, Agudelo returns for his sixth season with New England and his ninth overall MLS campaign.

The Barnegat, N.J. native has registered 32 goals and 14 assists across 128 appearances since joining the Revolution in 2013. In club history, the 26-year-old ranks tied for third in goals per 90 minutes (0.39), fifth in scoring percentage (15.6), and seventh in goals per game (0.25). Agudelo claimed the Revolution's Golden Boot in 2016 after scoring seven times despite missing 10 matches due to injury. He has totaled at least seven goals in four of his five campaigns with the Revs.

“Juan has been an integral member of our team over the last five years, and ensuring that he remained here in New England was a priority for us this offseason,” Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said. “We believe his best years as a player are still ahead of him, and we look forward to seeing Juan in a Revolution jersey in 2019 and beyond.”

“I’m happy to have re-signed with the Revolution after five great seasons and I’m grateful to remain on the team,” Agudelo said.  “I look forward to helping the Revolution and building off of last season. I’m excited to see my teammates next month and prepare for the 2019 season.”

For his MLS career, Agudelo has totaled 187 appearances, including 111 starts, with 43 goals and 20 assists. In the MLS Cup Playoffs, the forward owns six appearances – with five starts – with one goal and two assists. Prior to joining the Revolution in 2013, he spent three years with the New York Red Bulls from 2011-12, and just under two seasons with Chivas USA (2012-13). New England acquired Agudelo in a trade with Chivas in May 2013.

In 2018 with New England, Agudelo recorded three goals and four assists in 30 appearances, including 13 starts. His four helpers were tied for the third most on the team. He made one additional appearance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, logging 32 minutes as a substitute against Louisville City FC.

On the international stage, Agudelo has been capped 28 times by the United States Men's National Team, recording three goals and three assists. He most recently featured for the USMNT at the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup, where he appeared in all three matches of the group stage and helped the team win the tournament. In October 2017, Agudelo was an unused substitute for a pair of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. He also participated in the USMNT's 2018 January camp under then-Interim Head Coach Dave Sarachan.
