Revolution play Orlando City SC to 2-2 draw

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution (1-2-7; 10 points) played Orlando City SC (2-2-5; 11 points) to a 2-2 draw at Gillette Stadium on Saturday evening. Diego Fagundez opened the scoring for New England in the 7th minute, but Orlando City’s Kevin Molino answered with an equalizer in the 30th minute. Juan Agudelo put the Revolution back in front just one minute after entering the match as a substitute in the 70th minute, however, Orlando responded again, this time with a 90th minute equalizer from Carlos Rivas.

The Revolution will be back in action on Sunday, May 8th at 3:30 p.m. ET, when the club visits the LA Galaxy for a nationally televised match on ESPN. The match will also be broadcast locally on the radio by 98.5 The Sports Hub in English and WMVX 1570 AM “Nossa Radio” in Portuguese.


Revolution Record Seventh Draw of the Season

With tonight’s draw, the Revolution are now 1-2-7 on the season. With the result, the club stands in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 10 points.


Revolution Make Lineup Changes

The New England Revolution made a pair of changes to its starting lineup from April 27 vs. Portland. Revolution midfielder Scott Caldwell replaced midfielder Daigo Kobayashi and forward Femi Hollinger-Janzen replaced forward Charlie Davies in New England’s starting lineup.


Caldwell returns to the starting lineup after being an unused substitute on April 27 vs. Portland.


Hollinger-Janzen makes first start after being used as a substitute on April 27 vs. Portlad.


Midfielder Michael Gamble made the Revolution’s eighteen for the first time this season. He did not make an appearance in tonight’s match. Gamble was selected by the Revs in the second round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.


Diego Fagundez Records Team-High Third Goal

Revolution midfielder Diego Fagundez recorded his third goal of the season in the seventh minute of tonight’s contest. The goal was assisted by Lee Nguyen, it was his first assist of the year. Fagundez previously recorded goals on March 6 at Houston and April 1 vs. New York.


Fagundez now has 31 career MLS goals, all of which have been with the Revolution. He is currently fifth overall in Revolution career goals.


Lee Nguyen Records First Assist of 2016

Lee Nguyen assisted Diego Fagundez’s seventh-minute goal. The assist was Nguyen’s first of the season and first since Sept.16, 2015 at New York.


Nguyen now has 25 career MLS assists, all of which have been with the Revolution. He is now tied with Jay Heaps for eighth overall in Revolution career assists.


Juan Agudelo Opens 2016 Account

Revolution forward Juan Agudelo recorded his first goal of the 2016 MLS regular season.


The goal was Agudelo’s first goal in a substitute appearance since Sept. 5, 2015 vs. Orlando City SC.


Agudelo now has 26 career MLS goals, 15 of which have been with the Revolution.


Kelyn Rowe Grabs First Assist

Revolution midfielder Kelyn Rowe recorded his first assist of the 2016 MLS regular season on Juan Agudelo’s 71st minute goal.


The assist was Rowe’s first since Aug. 15, 2015 vs. Houston.


Rowe now has 25 career assists, all of which have been with the Revolution. That total is good for ninth most in Revolution career assist.


Rowe is now one assist shy of matching Jay Heaps’ eighth place mark of 26 career assists.


Nguyen Creates at Season-High Level

Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen created a match-high eight chances in tonight’s match. That total is Nguyen’s highest total of the 2016 MLS regular season and is the most chances created of any Revolution player in a single match.


Eight chances created ties Nguyen with Real Salt Lake’s Javier Morales and Joao Plata for most chances created by a single player in an MLS match this season.


Nguyen (26) trails only New York’s Sacha Kljestan (32) and Portland’s Diego Valeri (30) in chances created this season.


High Number of Clearances

The New England Revolution recorded a season-high 28 clearances during tonight’s match. That number surpasses the Revs previous high of 25 clearances on March 6 at the Houston Dynamo and on March 26 at New York City FC.


Winning Possession in the Attacking Third

The Revolution won possession in the attacking third a season-high eight times during tonight’s match. That total eclipses the previous season high of six times which happened on March 12 vs. D.C. United on March 26 at New York City FC.


Revolution Start Fast

For the fourth time this season, the Revolution were the first team to score a goal. The Revs previously scored the first goal on March 6 at Houston, on April 1 vs. New York, and on April 9 vs. Toronto.


The goal was the second fastest goal scored by the Revolution this season. Fagundez’s third minute goal on March 7 against Houston is still the fastest goal scored by the Revs in 2016.


Femi Hollinger-Janzen Records First Start

Revolution forward Femi-Hollinger Janzen made his first MLS start.


The Revolution’s 2016 MLS SuperDraft third round pick has now appeared in six of the Revs’ first 10 matches.


Matt Turner Records Shutout for Richmond Kickers

Matt Turner was unavailable for selection for the New England Revolution in tonight’s match due to being on a short term loan with the Richmond Kickers. Turner started and recorded a shutout, making five saves, in the Kickers’ 1-0 win on Saturday over Toronto FC II.


GAME HIGHLIGHTS

7th minute – Diego Fagundez opens the scoring for the Revolution early, taking a feed from Lee Nguyen inside of the scoring area and beating Orlando goalkeeper Joe Bendik with a deflected shot (WATCH HERE).


20th minute – Fagundez nearly adds to New England’s lead after corralling a cross from Kelyn Rowe inside of the 18-yard box. A frantic effort from Orlando City SC’s defense denied two shot attempts from Fagundez, and rebound tries from Lee Nguyen and Femi Hollinger-Janzen (WATCH HERE).


29th minute – The Revolution nearly cash in on their first set piece of the night. Nguyen, stationed just beyond the right boundary of the 18-yard box, connects with Rowe on his free kick, but Rowe’s volley sails wide of Orlando’s net.


53rd minute – Kelyn Rowe intercepts an Orlando City player and regains possession for New England in the attacking third. He immediately turns up field and fires a right-footed shot on net, but Bendik is positioned well for the save.


56th minute – Rowe continues making his presence felt and creating for the Revs. He finds space in the box, reels in a chipped cross from Lee Nguyen, and gets a redirection on net (WATCH HERE).


71st minute – Just one minute after entering the match as a substitute, Juan Agudelo scores his first goal of the season and puts the Revolution back in front. Kelyn Rowe, on the receiving end of a through ball from Lee Nguyen, played a low cross into the box, which Agudelo jammed past Joe Bendik with his right foot (WATCH HERE).


90th minute – With the Revolution searching for a late game-winner, Jose Goncalves connects with Juan Agudelo on a long cross, which Agudelo powerfully heads off the cross bar (WATCH HERE).
