Lineup Notes:

  • Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena deploys a 4-2-3-1 for the first time this season with three changes in the Starting XI from last week’s home opener against D.C. United. DeJuan Jones, Maciel, and Tajon Buchanan start in place of Christian Mafla, Wilfrid Kaptoum, and Gustavo Bou.
  • First-year midfielder Maciel becomes the first Revolution II graduate to appear and start in a first-team match. The 21-year-old native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was signed to the MLS roster on March 22 and was the lone Revolution II player to appear in all 16 games during the team’s inaugural USL League One campaign in 2020. Maciel is the sixth Revolution player to make his MLS debut this season.
  • After missing last week’s match due to a red card suspension, DeJuan Jones returns to New England’s starting backline with right back Brandon Bye and the center back duo of Henry Kessler and Andrew Farrell. The Revolution’s defense currently carries a streak of 169 minutes without conceding a goal, dating back to the 11th minute of the club’s season opener at Chicago on April 17.
  • Farrell and Kessler have started together in central defense in all but three regular season matches since the start of 2020. With his appearance in tonight’s Starting XI, Farrell (239 career starts, all with New England) surpasses Jay Heaps for sole possession of third-most starts in Revolution history. Kessler is set to register his 25th MLS appearance.
  • Bye is 58 minutes shy of eclipsing 6,000 career minutes played. The fourth-year defender has logged 90-minute performances in each of New England’s first two games.
  • Matt Turner, 0-1-1 in two career appearances against Atlanta, recorded his 25th win and 17th clean sheet in last Saturday’s 1-0 victory over D.C. United. Turner (244) is six saves away from reaching 250 for his MLS career.
  • Arnór Traustason appears in the Starting XI for the second consecutive match. The Icelandic midfielder made his league and club debuts with an 81-minute performance during last Saturday’s win.
  • Matt Polster makes his 100th MLS appearance in tonight’s match. The sixth-year central midfielder collected his 10thstart in a Revolution uniform in last Saturday’s home opener and is 141 minutes away from eclipsing 7,500 minutes played in MLS.
  • Carles Gil, wearing the captain’s armband, will face off against his former Aston Villa teammate Atlanta goalkeeper Brad Guzan. He entered Week 3 leading MLS in chances created from set play (6) and successful corners/crosses (9).
  • Adam Buksa enters tonight’s match as the league leader in duels won (26) and aerial duels won (14). Buksa and Gil are tied for the team lead with five shots apiece.
  • Tajon Buchanan returns to the Starting XI after submitting a nine-minute performance off the bench last weekend. The third-year forward is one of two players, along with Buksa, to have appeared in every regular season contest since 2020.

Bench: GK Brad Knighton, D Jon Bell, D A.J. DeLaGarza, D Christian Mafla, M Scott Caldwell, M Wilfrid Kaptoum, M Tommy McNamara, F Teal Bunbury, F Edward Kizza
