FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – After completing their regular seasons earlier this month, two New England Revolution Academy teams are heading to Westfield, Indiana to take part in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs and Showcase. The Revolution Under-16s are in the Playoffs for the first time since the 2011-12 season and enter the group stage of the competition looking to advance to the Academy Championships for the first time ever.

While there is no national playoff for the Under-14 age group, the Revolution U-14s, who went 20-2-2 in the regular season, are also heading to Indiana today to take part in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase. The Revs head to Indiana in the midst of a 17-game unbeaten streak, having last lost in November 2014. They will open their Showcase schedule against SC United Battery (South Carolina) on June 19 before taking on the San Jose Earthquakes (California) the next day and finishing up their Showcase against FC Golden State (California) on Monday, June 22 with all games being played at the Grand Parks Sports Campus.

One day after the Under-14s wrap up their Showcase, the Revolution U-16s open play in Group A of the Development Academy Playoffs when they face the Capital Area RailHawks (North Carolina) on June 23. Further group stage games against Crew SC Academy Wolves (Ohio) on June 24 and Seattle Sounders FC (Washington) on June 26 will follow with the eventual group winner advancing to the next stage of the competition, which will be held on Wednesday, July 8. There, the eight group winners will each play one game with the four winners advancing to the Academy Championships at StubHub Center in Carson, California on July 16 with the final Championship game being held at the same venue on Saturday, July 18.

ACADEMY NOTES
Under-14s enjoy record season and look to close out campaign with lengthy unbeaten run

The Under-14s closed out their regular-season play last weekend, earning a 2-0 win over Oakwood SC to head into their Showcase with a 20-2-2 record on the season. The Revs U-14s’ record has improved every season since the team was founded ahead of the 2012-13 season. After going 10-3-2 in their inaugural season in the U.S. Club Soccer Pre-Academy League, they went 15-5-5 last season in their first year as a U.S. Soccer Development Academy team.

The U-14s’ 20-2-2 mark also includes a 17-game undefeated streak, with the side going 15-0-2 since their last defeat on November 8, 2014. The U-14s’ current streak is just one game shy of matching their 18-game unbeaten run from the 2013-14 season when the side went 14-0-4 between October 6, 2013 through June 7, 2014.

Impressive season for Under-16s results in international call-ups

The Revolution U-16s enjoyed a positive season, going 12-5-9 in league play to qualify for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs while also finishing in sixth place in the Premier Division of the Generation adidas Cup, which is Major League Soccer’s annual elite youth tournament for U-17 Academy teams. The U-16s’ performances earned four members of the side international call-ups in the 2014-15 season.

In November 2014, defender Daniel Jones was called in for a U.S. U-16s training camp and a pair of friendlies in Clairefontaine, France. Jones was scheduled to join fellow U-16 standout Justin Rennicks on the U.S. U-16s roster for the 2015 Aegan Cup International Youth Tournament in Turkey, but he was forced to withdraw from the team because of an injury. Along with his trip to Turkey, Rennicks was also called in for the Netherlands International Tournament, which was held in Rotterdam in March 2015. There, he was joined by Jones and Calvin Aroh, who was called in to a Youth National Team for the first time since a week-long U.S. Under-14 training camp in August 2013.

Most recently, Aroh, Jones and Rennicks were joined by Revolution goalkeeper Trey Miller, who recorded 14 shutouts in 27 appearances in all competitions for the U-16s this season, for a week-long U.S. U-16s training camp held in Sunrise, Florida earlier this month.

Fourth-place finish not enough as Under-18s miss out on fourth consecutive playoff berth

The Revs Under-18s missed out on a playoff berth for the first time since the 2010-11 season after finishing fourth in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy East Conference Northeast Division. The side posted a 10-9-7 record in the 2014-15 season and missed out on a top-three finish by one point, as the Montreal Impact, BW Gottschee Academy and Oakwood SC all finished above the Revs.

The U-18s, who saw captain Zachary Herivaux sign a Homegrown contract with the Revolution on May 2, had nine players announce their college commitments in February. Goalkeeper Austin Aviza, who has spent time training with the Revolution’s first team, is headed to Syracuse while Chris Arling, who scored a team-best 13 goals on the season for his side will attend the University of New Hampshire starting in the Fall. Midfielder Derek Blanchette will head to Bryant University in Rhode Island having notched a team-high six assists for the U-18s this season while Suri Chavali committed to the University of Massachusetts – Amherst. Guy Kabala will head to 2014 NCAA College Cup semifinalists Providence College and forward Amadu Kunateh will be playing at Dartmouth College in the Fall. Rounding out the group, Matt Morana will join the Lehigh University team in August and Dylan Mott will begin his college career at Columbia University.
