Revolution II embark on Sunday’s contest riding a five-game unbeaten run, most recently posting a 2-1 road victory at CT United FC last weekend. New England has spent its last three contests away from Beirne Stadium, improving to eight unbeaten road results, while owning one of the league’s best away records, with just a single road loss, the second fewest in MLS NEXT Pro. New England returns to Beirne Stadium, having collected points in its last two home contests, including a 2-2 draw against Columbus Crew 2 on July 15 and a 3-0 win over New York City FC II on July 23.
Forward/winger Myles Morgan has been in stellar form this season, having scored the game-winning goal at CT United FC, his team-best 10th goal of the campaign. In his debut season with Revolution II, Morgan has become just the fourth player in club history to reach double-digit goals in a single campaign. The Canada native also ranks among the league's best attackers, with his 10 tallies tied for fifth most in MLS NEXT Pro this season, while his 61 shot attempts rank sixth. New England is 5-1-3 this season when Morgan finds the back of the net, including an unbeaten 2-0-2 mark at home.
Academy forward Matthew Jean Baptiste also continues to be a driving force among Revolution II’s attack, with five goal contributions (4g, 1a) in his last five starts. Jean Bapiste, the MLS NEXT Rising Star of July, has scored in back-to-back matches, while his four goals this season rank third most on the team. Fellow attacker Carlos Zambrano has been red hot in the midfield, tallying his team-best sixth assist of the season last weekend. The Venezuelan has recently found his footing, recording five goal contributions (2g, 3a) in as many games, while his 24 successful crosses rank fifth leaguewide.
Revolution II continue to boast a talented roster of Academy graduates, including forward/winger Makai Wells, who signed his first professional contract last Sunday. Wells eyes his fourth straight start this weekend after registering one key pass and one shot attempt against CT United FC, while completing 100 percent of his passes in his 68-minute shift. Homegrown midfielder Cristiano Oliveira aims to add to his team-leading 32 key passes this season, having delivered two assists in his last three starts.
Fellow Academy product Judah Siqueira, an Easton, Mass. native, looks to find the scoresheet for his third straight outing on Sunday. New England could also see the return of midfielder Javaun Mussenden, who is fresh off a run to the Under-20 Concacaf Championship Final with the U.S. Under-19 National Team. The Academy graduate has been a mainstay in Revolution II’s midfield this season, suiting up for 15 appearances, including 14 starts, with one goal and two assists.
Two of MLS NEXT Pro’s strongest defensive sides will lock horns on Sunday, as Revolution II takes on Philadelphia Union II for the third time this season, with each side earning a win in the previous matchups. New England enters the weekend with the fewest goals conceded in the Eastern Conference (24), while Philadelphia closely trails with 29 goals allowed. Since Head Coach Chris Harmon took the helm in May, Union II owns a 3-5-0 record and has collected points in their last two outings. Forward Stas Korzeniowski, who was named MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchweek 23, leads the team with seven goals, while goalkeeper Pierce Holbrook ranks tied for fifth in the league with 56 saves.
