CURRENT FORM
New England Revolution
11th in Eastern Conference (7-11-7, 28 pts.)
Last Result | 2-0 win vs. D.C. United
New England found an important three points last time out, snapping a nine-game winless streak with a 2-0 triumph over D.C. United. As the Revolution sit eight points back of the playoff line, it was a crucial win to gain some momentum as they make a late-season run toward a postseason spot. The Revs prepare to take on Los Angeles FC having only faced them three previous times in club history.
Carles Gil continues to make a major impact for the Revs, as the playmaker helped lead them in last weekend’s win. The captain logged a goal and an assist last Saturday night, officially claiming the record for most goal contributions (130) in club history.
Los Angeles FC
5th in Western Conference (10-6-7, 37 pts.)
Last Result | 2-2 draw at Chicago Fire FC
LAFC are winless in their last three regular season games, taking three straight draws. Although their record on the road, 2-3-5, is not quite as impressive as their 8-3-2 home mark, it’s clear that LAFC is a difficult team to beat. The California club sits fifth in the Western Conference table, with a goal differential of +11. LAFC boasts a staunch defense with only 30 goals against, combined with a strong attack, scoring 41 goals so far this season.
LAFC recently signed one of the most well-known names in world soccer, forward Son Heung-min. The former English Premier League player debuted for LAFC in their previous match against Chicago and is expected to bolster their attack alongside current Golden Boot contender, Denis Bouanga.
KEY PLAYERS
Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner
Matt Turner made his return debut last week, appearing at Gillette Stadium for the first time since 2022. The goalkeeper spent seven seasons with New England to start his professional career, prior to playing three seasons in the English Premier League. Turner helped the Revs secure a clean sheet with some key saves against D.C., reminding fans why he’s consistently earned a spot on the USMNT and played on the world’s biggest stage.
With that first game back under his belt, Turner’s influence on the Revolution backline is expected to grow as they attempt to return to their early-season defensive form. As the Revs prepare to face LAFC’s dangerous attack, Turner offers experience and command.
LAFC forward Son Heung-min
Son Heung-min debuted for LAFC in their last outing and made an instant impact – coming on in the 61st minute and drawing a penalty that would help LAFC secure the draw against Chicago. The forward arrives in Los Angeles from English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, where he played 10 seasons and became one of the league’s most formidable attackers.
In line to potentially make his first MLS start on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium, the influential Son will be eager to claim his first win with his new team. As the Revolution look to continue their drive toward the playoffs, they’ll have to slow down the South Korean star.
WHAT THE TEAM IS SAYING
Head coach Caleb Porter on how New England will plan to play against LAFC:
“We have to be a team. It’s 11-v-11. I know that’s cliché, but we need to be a team, and we need to defend with 11 guys. If we defend and we’re honest with 11 guys, and we’re organized – certainly there are a few other things that we’re going to look to do in the game that I won’t mention. But, for me, that’s a starting point against a team like this. We have to be honest, we have to be organized, and that will give us a chance in the match, because with less time and space, their individual talent will have less moments, hopefully, where they can hurt you.”
Forward Ignatius Ganago on looking to make an impact over the final stretch of the season:
“It’s simple: I love what I’m doing, I love to play soccer, so for me, the most important thing is to be on the pitch, to enjoy the moment, win games. I know if you win games, you can make the playoffs, and if we make the playoffs, maybe we can win the MLS Cup. This is the most important – just enjoy the moment, try to show yourself as a team, because now we need the team, not just individual players. The most important thing is the team to be together and just enjoy the moment.”
Striker Leo Campana on the approach to the final stretch of the regular season:
“I think we’ll take it game by game. Each game for us right now is a final. We have to play like we’re in the playoffs, we’re in the final for MLS. We’re going to give it our all. We’re going to give our 200 percent each game. I’m really confident that we can get into the playoffs.”
