CURRENT FORM

New England Revolution
11th in Eastern Conference (6-8-7, 25 pts.)

Last Result | 0-0 draw at Austin FC

New England secured their eighth clean sheet of the season on Saturday night in Austin, tying them for second-most in the league. The scoreless draw rewarded the Revs with a hard-fought point after two straight losses. While New England was happy to secure a result in their first visit to a rowdy Q2 Stadium, they remain winless in their last six games.

Eager to get back on a winning path, New England have been lively in the attack, placing eight shots on target in Austin, denied only by a Team of the Matchday performance from MLS All-Star Brad Stuver. While the Revs are creating chances, they’ve struggled to find the finish in recent weeks. Still one of the best defensive sides in the East, New England will need to put away shots at Sports Illustrated Stadium to take down their I-95 rivals.

New York Red Bulls
8th in Eastern Conference (8-8-6, 30 pts.)

Last Result | 2-0 loss at Philadelphia Union

While the Red Bulls remain firmly in the playoff mix, they haven’t won a game since May, going winless in their last five games (0-2-3). New York have struggled to find victories recently, but have still managed to go unbeaten at home for five straight. They’ve been hardest to beat at home, with a 7-1-2 record at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Wednesday’s match will be the second meeting between the Revolution and Red Bulls this season, after New England secured their first win of 2025 against them at Gillette Stadium back in March. With the Red Bulls hosting this time around, it will be a bigger challenge to take them down once more.

KEY PLAYERS

Revolution midfielder Carles Gil
Carles Gil has been a key player for the Revolution in every match this season, and Wednesday will be no different. The captain has scored eight goals and registered seven assists so far, getting on the scoreboard for the first time in 2025 against the Red Bulls, when his game-winning brace sealed a 2-1 victory for the Revolution in March.

The playmaker will be riding a high in New Jersey, after he was just named to the 2025 MLS All-Star roster by head coach Nico Estévez, earning the honor for the fourth time in his MLS career. With a boost of confidence in the midst of a busy stretch, Gil could bring a shot of energy on Wednesday night.

Red Bulls forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting
With 11 goals this season, Choupo-Moting leads the Red Bulls with 13 total goal contributions, including New York’s lone goal in the 2-1 loss at Gillette Stadium on March 29. Five of those contributions have come in New York’s last six games alone, meaning the forward has been at peak form as the Revolution prepare to visit.

Boasting an overall xG of 9.16, Choupo-Moting consistently positions himself in dangerous spots for opposing defenses. As the Revolution aim to secure three points in New Jersey, their staunch back line will need to contain the in-form attacker, and they’ll need to do so without the suspended Mamadou Fofana (yellow card accumulation).

HEAR FROM THE REVS

Head coach Caleb Porter on the clean-sheet performance at Austin FC on Saturday:
“Another good defensive performance, which isn’t easy, ever, on the road in this league, against a team that had been in good form and taken results in eight out of 10. It was a good environment. So, [we’re] pleased with that part. Our eighth clean sheet, two away from tying the club record if you can believe that. Just in the box, we have to do better. We had 13 or 14 crosses and zero completed. So, the players in those positions, we showed [them] the film today, they have to get the cross right. The runs were there actually, so that’s the only thing we have to keep working on and keep looking at. Obviously, we’ll see where Peyton [Miller] and Ilay [Feingold] are at. We got a little run with them today, so we’ll make a decision whether or not they’re a part of the game.”

Porter on building attacking consistency despite injuries and Luca Langoni’s recent performances:
“It’s not ideal to have to change so much. It hasn’t been by design, it’s been because of injuries. Luca [Langoni] has recently done extremely well. I thought he played another good game [at Austin FC]. He was lively and he was in behind them. He had two good chances. The first one was saved, an excellent save, he took it well and put it right where he should have put it and the goalie made a fingertip save, an unbelievable save. The second key chance he had he could probably do it a bit better and go low, back post. But he’s playing really well. I like his rhythm. I like his confidence. Ideally, yeah, you don’t want change the front two that much because you want an understanding to develop. I’ve said it – our best run of form was when we had continuity in every game. That [consistency is] always going to be a better formula, because the understanding and the chemistry is better.”

Captain Carles Gil on earning his fourth All-Star selection:
“Yeah, it’s always difficult [to be chosen] in my position, with many good players there. But I think it means I’m doing good things. For me, what’s always important is the group, trying to win is the best way to then improve as an individual player. I’m trying to be the best Carles, not for me, but for the group, for my team.”

Gil on how he stays mentally sharp to face Red Bulls in a multi-game week:
“It’s a difficult two weeks, but like I said, it’s a key game. So, the 11 [players] starting and the other guys coming from the bench need to be ready. We know what Red Bulls are, it’s a team that likes to fight, one-v-ones, running [all] over the pitch. It will be difficult. We beat them at home [on March 29] a few months ago and we want to do the same.”
