CURRENT FORM

New England Revolution
8th in MLS Eastern Conference (3-3-0, 9 pts.)
Last Result | 1-0 win vs. D.C. United

The New England Revolution have a budding confidence after Saturday’s win over D.C. United brought them to a perfect 3-0-0 at home so far this season. The three-point result was the second consecutive shutout victory for the Revs as they prepare to host RIFC at Centreville Bank Stadium to kick off their 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run.

While the neighboring teams have little history, facing each other just once in last year’s Open Cup Round of 32, New England have the upper hand after defeating RIFC, 2-1. Looking ahead, the Revs face a busy stretch to close out April, with at least four games remaining through the end of the month. As New England look to sustain their solid form in regular season play, Tuesday’s match could be an opportunity for some players outside the starting XI to gain minutes against RIFC.

Rhode Island FC
10th in USL Championship Eastern Conference (1-2-2, 5 pts.)
Last Result | 3-1 win at Lexington SC

In USL Championship play, Rhode Island have taken a mixed bag of results, finding their first win of the season on Saturday against Lexington SC. Through five matches, RIFC have scored seven goals and conceded eight, managing one clean sheet as they continue to settle into regular season rhythm.

On the road to the Round of 32 in the Open Cup, RIFC earned two multi-goal, shutout victories, winning 4-0 against CD Faialense and 2-0 vs. Hartford Athletic. Both positive Open Cup results have come on their home turf of Centreville Bank Stadium. With New England as technical hosts on Tuesday night, it’s an interesting detail to a matchup that has elements of a regional rivalry.

KEY PLAYERS

Revolution midfielder Cristiano Oliveira
At the start of the 2026 season, 18-year-old midfielder Cristiano Oliveira signed a Homegrown contract with the Revolution first team. He made his first team debut last season at Centreville Bank Stadium as the Revs took on RIFC in the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32, scoring the game-wining goal for New England in the final minutes of the match.

This season, Oliveira has started all four of his appearances for Revolution II, logging two assists. As New England could potentially dig into their depth during a busy stretch, Oliveira could provide an attacking edge once again for New England.

Rhode Island forward JJ Williams
Williams is the joint all-time leading goal scorer for Rhode Island FC with 19 goals. While he hasn’t found the net yet this season in regular season play, Williams leads RIFC in the assist column with two in USL Championship play, three across all competitions.

In Rhode Island’s last Open Cup outing against Hartford Athletic, Williams logged a goal and an assist in the 2-0 victory that brought them to the Round of 32. As RIFC look to fledge a “cup-set” against New England, Williams will be a key threat in their attack.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

Assistant coach Blair Gavin on a busy stretch through the end of April and potential team rotation for Tuesday’s Open Cup match:
“I think every game we take is an opportunity to keep developing what we want from our coaching staff, from the team, and from the club. Tomorrow is a great opportunity for them to showcase themselves against Rhode Island, who is another very good team.”

Gavin on what he expects from Tuesday’s match:
“They’re very strong. Last year’s game was very competitive – it went down to the wire – which we scored to win the game. I don’t see it going much differently. It’s going to be very competitive. We’re going to push from the beginning and see what we can come up with.”

Winger Griffin Yow on the team’s approach to tomorrow’s U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 match against Rhode Island FC:
“We take it very seriously. Just like any other MLS game, the Open Cup is a tournament that ultimately, we want to win. So, I think we’re taking it very seriously, fully focused, and just planning for the game ahead.”
