NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. (August 22, 2026) – New England Revolution II (11-7-6, 42 pts.) came up short at New York City FC II (11-8-4, 39 pts.), 2-1, on Saturday evening at Icahn Stadium. New York City FC II struck first in the seventh minute, but forward/winger Myles Morgan responded with an equalizer in the 20th minute, netting his 13th goal of the season and tying Liam Butts for the club's single-season scoring record. However, a second-half own goal ultimately proved to be the difference.

New England opened the match on the front foot, creating its first dangerous chance inside the opening 10 minutes. Academy defender Josh Macedo, making his second start of the season, lofted a cross into the box that found defender Gabe Dahlin, but the New York City goalkeeper Mac Learned comfortably gathered his header. However, the home side responded on the ensuing attack, as Maximo Carrizo set up Cooper Flax for a first-time finish that slipped past goalkeeper Zach LaPierre to give New York City an early lead.

Revolution II responded to pull the match level, with Matthew Jean Baptiste and Morgan linking up to even the score. Homegrown midfielder Cristiano Oliveira ignited the attack with a pass to Morgan, who laid the ball off to Jean Baptiste outside the 18-yard box. Spotting Morgan's run behind the defense, the Academy product threaded a return pass into Morgan, who slid to redirect the ball past the goalkeeper and a recovering defender for his 13th goal of the campaign. The tally marked Morgan's fifth straight game finding the back of the net, while Jean Baptiste recorded his second professional assist.

Before the intermission, New England continued to push forward, with its best chance coming in the 29th minute. After Jean Baptiste flicked a pass forward into Oliveira's path, the Somerville, Mass., native uncorked a low, driven shot toward the far post, but Learned came up with a full-extension save to parry the attempt away and preserve the deadlock through halftime.

The home side restored its advantage in the 65th minute when Jonny Lopez's cross into the box took a deflection off defender Jake Shannon and rolled into the net. New England attempted to respond via free kick opportunity, with Morgan stepping up to the spot, but his shot sailed wide of the woodwork.

After New York City FC II was reduced to 10 men late in the match after Joao Loiola was shown a red card, New England seized the momentum and nearly tied the contest. Forward/winger Shuma Sasaki, who entered as a 70th-minute substitute, delivered a low cross in front of the face of the goal that Learned punched away. Morgan pounced on the rebound, but a New York City FC II defender slid on the goal line to deny the attempt and preserve the home side's lead. Revolution II sustained the pressure in the closing minutes, but New York City FC II's defense held firm to secure the victory.

Revolution II return to Beirne Stadium for their final home contest of the season, hosting Huntsville City FC on Sunday, August 30. The 7:00 p.m. ET kickoff will stream on MLSNEXTPro.com and the OneFootball platform.
