FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (October 11, 2023) – The New England Revolution have signed defender Henry Kessler to a two-year contract extension using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) through the 2025 Major League Soccer season, with an additional one-year club option for 2026.

Kessler, New England’s first-round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft whose current contract was set to expire at the end of the 2023 season, returned to action on Saturday at Orlando City SC to mark his first appearance since sustaining a hamstring injury in April. In his four-year MLS career with the Revolution, the University of Virginia product has made 80 regular season appearances, 72 starts, and scored four goals, with five additional starts in the postseason.

Kessler, 25, registered seven consecutive starts to open the 2023 campaign before sustaining the injury after making 22 appearances last season. During New England’s Supporters’ Shield campaign in 2021, he set career highs with 28 games played and 25 starts. In 2020, Kessler was voted the Revolution’s Defender of the Year by local media, the first rookie to earn the honor since A.J. Soares in 2011.

“Henry has shown tremendous growth over his four seasons with the Revolution and has been one of our most reliable defenders throughout his professional career,” New England Technical Director Curt Onalfo said. “We look forward to Henry’s contributions in a Revolution uniform for years to come. More immediately, his return to the team will be a tremendous asset as we close out the regular season and prepare for the playoffs.”

On the international level, Kessler has been capped twice by the United States Men’s National Team. The New York City native made his United States debut during the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, helping the Stars and Stripes win their seventh Gold Cup title.

The Revolution return to action on Saturday night at Nashville SC in the final road match of the regular season. Saturday’s contest at GEODIS Park kicks off at 8:30 p.m. ET and is available to watch FREE on Apple TV. Listen locally on the radio at 98.5 The Sports Hub (WBZ-FM) or 1260 AM Nossa Radio in Portuguese.
