WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

MATCHDAY GUIDE: "Final Whistle on Hate" | Revs vs. Chelsea FC | May 15, 2019 -

The New England Revolution and Chelsea FC have teamed up in a big way as they host the 'Final Whistle on Hate' charity match at Gillette Stadium on May 15.

These two teams are playing to raise support and awareness in the fight against antisemitism and discrimination around the world, as these MLS and Premier League squads harness the power of sport in bringing people together to tackle hate and prejudice in all its forms.

All proceeds from this match will benefit initiatives that combat antisemitism, with the primary beneficiaries including the World Jewish Congress, the Tree of Life synagogue, the Anti-Defamation League, and the Holocaust Educational Trust.

The original concept for this match came to light as club owners Robert Kraft and Roman Abramovich developed the idea in light of a global rise in antisemitic activity. Both club owners will also each donate $1 million in support of the cause.

USING SOCCER AS A PLATFORM

"The sport is growing so much in America and it’s incredible to see. The game will be fantastic and it’s for a really important cause, something that’s very close to the owner’s heart.

"To bring people together through football and to rise past this issue is something fantastic and I think it’s really important."

- Chelsea and USMNT midfielder Christian Pulisic

"Part of the benefit of being a professional athlete is being able to use your platform to bring light to issues that people aren’t so comfortable talking about. This one hits home for me personally. Coming from a Jewish background, this whole thing is pretty special - the whole occasion, the whole build up. Like I said, (it's) bringing light to an issue that some people deny even exists – but it’s definitely very real out there in the world, so hopefully we can do something pretty special to help combat it.”

- Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner

"Sports can do amazing things that other phenomena simply can’t. As athletes, to be able to be a part of something so special that is very important as far as making sure that we understand as players that we’re all people first. We’re humans first.

"Doing what we can to move humanity in a forward trend is always paramount as far as just day-to-day life and human relations are concerned. For that, we’re excited to be a part of it, and there's no better cause to try to help.”

- Revolution defender Jalil Anibaba
