FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution officially secured homefield advantage for Round One of the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs with a 3-2 victory over Red Bull New York on Wednesday night at Gillette Stadium. It was the fourth straight win for the Revs as they prepare to face just two more tests ahead of the postseason.
The Revs got straight to business against New York, logging their first of the night off a goal from Dor Turgeman in the ninth minute. Assisted by Carles Gil, the striker ripped a shot from outside the box with just .05 xG. The helper marked a major milestone for Gil, who became one of only eight players in MLS history to record 100 career regular-season assists.
“Congratulations to Carles. It’s amazing, a great achievement. I’ll repeat myself for what I’ve said many times, Carles is someone who the team really knows and believes can help us change the game with numbers, goals, and assists, but there are so many small things that Carles does on the field outside of goals and assists that help us so much to perform,” head coach Marko Mitrović said after the match. “Who he is as a person, he’s earned and deserved these things to happen to him and I’m really happy for Carles.”
Ahead by one, New England carried their momentum into the second half. Just one minute in, Turgeman struck again to complete his second brace of the season. The goal raised his season tally to 12, including five in his last four matches.
“I’m very happy to score and to help the team win and we just need to continue on Sunday,” said Turgeman. “Almost every week me and Marko watch some videos; it’s really helped me and I’m really happy that I’ve transferred this to the game.”
Turgeman’s brace gave New England a cushion, but New York responded quickly – finding the net just five minutes later. They then equalized in the 64th minute. While New England were frustrated to relinquish the lead, the resilient Revs still had time to reclaim all three points, and if there’s anything to be learned from this season’s Revolution squad, they will find a way to come out on top.
In the 83rd minute, the Revs found the breakthrough. Dániel Gazdag, growing more comfortable with the group every game, scored his second goal in a Revs jersey. After Peyton Miller’s shot was spilled by RBNY goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, Gazdag was ready to pounce, hammering in the match winner off the rebound.

The three points guaranteed New England a top three spot in the East, as they now prepare to host Inter Miami CF on Sunday night. Just two points separate the teams in the table, with the Revs second and Miami third in the Eastern Conference standings.
With just two games remaining in the regular season, every point and every bit of momentum is crucial. The win was the Revolution's 18th of the year, marking the club’s second-most victories in a single season. While the Revs were happy to get the result on Wednesday night, it’s all about getting sharper and stronger from here.
“I think there were moments in the game where we could definitely have been cleaner, and I think that’s something that everyone knows and everyone wants to improve upon. That being said, I think the mark of a great team is just finding ways to win, and this team has proven over and over that they can do that,” said defender Will Sands.
New England will look to keep the win streak rolling over the weekend with the final regular season kickoff at Gillette Stadum set for 7:00 p.m. ET on Sunday night against Inter Miami CF.
