FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder and Homegrown Player Diego Fagundez has been named to the MLSsoccer.com 24 Under 24. The honor is the sixth of Fagundez's career and his fifth consecutive selection, having been named to the list in each season since 2013 and also in 2011.
Fagundez's six selections to the 24 Under 24 list are now more than any other MLS player since the rankings began in 2010. He breaks a tie with Juan Agudelo, Fabian Castillo, Bill Hamid, and Perry Kitchen, all of whom have been named to the 24 Under 24 list five times. With five straight selections, Fagundez, 22, owns the longest active streak and ties the longest stretch in the list's history, matching Castillo, Hamid, and Kitchen.
All MLS players aged 23 or younger before Oct. 22, 2017 were eligible for consideration. The final list of 24 players is determined by a panel made up of top soccer media members and the MLSsoccer.com editorial staff. The panel ranked eligible members based on the following criteria: technical ability, soccer IQ, physical attributes, personality, and potential. The seventh-year pro and Leominster, Mass. native became the first Homegrown Player signing in Revolution history in 2011. Earlier this year, he became the first Homegrown field player to record 10,000 career minutes, and is also the youngest player in league history to make 100 appearances and total 25 goals. In 2016, Fagundez also became the second youngest player in MLS annals to reach 100 career starts. For his regular season career, Fagundez owns 38 goals and 31 assists in 180 appearances, with 131 starts.
