Academy Update | Spring schedule rolls on as Revs host rivals at Gillette Stadium

Academy 2018-19 primary

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy continued its spring season last weekend as all five teams resumed their campaigns at Gillette Stadium. The Under-19s, Under-17s, Under-15s, Under-14s, and Under-13s all hosted Beachside SC on Saturday, April 6. The following day, the Under-17s and Under-15s additionally hosted Oakwood SC at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, April 7.


Three Academy teams will return to action on Saturday, April 13 when the U-17s will travel to Frisco, Texas to take part in the Generation adidas Cup Premier Division, beginning with a matchup against Icelandic side UMF Fjolnir. Meanwhile, the U-14s and U-13s will travel to Orangeburg, N.Y. to face World Class FC.


WEEKHIGHLIGHTS


  • Midfielder Nicolas Firmino (Somerville, Mass.—2001) started, scored a goal, and played 90 minutes in the U-19s’ 4-1 win over Beachside SC at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, April 6. 
  • Forward Tico Rivera (Cranston, R.I.—2002) scored three goals in two games this past weekend. Rivera scored a goal in the U-17s’ 5-2 win over Beachside SC on Saturday, followed by a brace against Oakwood SC on Sunday.
  • Forward Colin Hughes (Charlton, Mass.—2004) recorded a brace after finding the back of the net twice in the U-15s’ 3-2 loss against Beachside SC on Saturday at Gillette Stadium. 
  • Midfielder Jack Panayotou (Cambridge, Mass.—2004) also tallied a brace for the U-15s this past weekend in the team’s 3-1 victory over Oakwood SC on Sunday.
  • Goalkeepers Brady Elmblad (Sharon, Mass.—2005) and Oskar Calderone (Lincoln, R.I.—2005) teamed up to provide a combined shutout in the U-14s’ draw with Beachside SC on April 6.
  • Forward Benaiah Hanson (Loudon, N.H.—2006) tallied a brace in the U-13s’ 4-1 home win over Beachside SC on Saturday at Gillette Stadium.
