DL - Academy game U16s Youth

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – All three New England Revolution Academy teams were in action last weekend, going 2-2-1 in five combined games, all of which were played at Medway High School. The Under-18s and Under-16s each took part in doubleheaders against Pennsylvania-based sides, with the U-18s suffering their first two defeats of the season, falling 2-1 to Continental FC DELCO and 4-0 to the Philadelphia Union. The U-16s defeated FC DELCO 1-0 and played to a 0-0 draw with the Union while the Under-14s claimed a 6-2 victory over Oakwood SC on Saturday afternoon in their only game of the weekend.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s opened up the weekend with a 2-1 defeat to Continental FC DELCO on Saturday. The Revs found themselves two goals down inside 20 minutes after Christopher Smolyn and Leon Maric each found the net for the visitors, who took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. The Revs pulled a goal back just before the hour mark as Calvin Aroh (Glastonbury, Conn.) headed a John Wilkins (Natick, Mass.) corner kick across the area for fellow center back Ben Waithe (Plymouth, Mass.), who powered his header into the net and cut New England’s deficit to 2-1. However, that would be as close as the Revs would get on the afternoon as they were unable to find an equalizer despite out-shooting FC DELCO 17-9 on the day.

UNDER-14s

After opening their season with a loss and a draw, the Under-14s claimed their first win of the season on Saturday, earning a 6-2 victory over Oakwood SC. The Revs were 2-0 up within the opening 11 minutes of the game, with Jonathan Ferreira (Ashland, Mass.) finishing after being played through by Trevor Burns (Southborough, Mass.) and Luis Blanco (Pawtucket, R.I.) also finding the net off an assist from Kaoru Fujiwara (Lexington, Mass.).

The Revs and Oakwood traded blows through the remainder of the first half, with Ferreira scoring his second of the game in between two strikes from Oakwood’s Owen Guglielmino to make the halftime score 3-2 in favor of New England.

Three late goals sealed the win for the Revs as they picked up their first win of the new campaign. On a quick break, substitute Bryce Visnick (Beverly, Mass.) found Elio Firmino (Somerville, Mass.) inside the Oakwood area and Firmino finished for his first goal of the season, making the score 4-2 New England. Visnick then added two goals, his first two of the season, to round out the scoring for the Revs. In the 73rd minute, fellow substitute Michael Balleani (Woburn, Mass.) beat his man down the right before crossing for Visnick to score at the back post for his first of the day. Then, in second-half stoppage time, Visnick finished off a pass from Ferreira to give the Revs a 6-2 victory and the full three points.
