Here is how it works!
Frictionless checkout stores in the North End Zone operate by the camera system creating a digital profile for groups that walk in, based on the payment card used. The system follows guests through the store (top-down for privacy) and tracks what they pick up, adding items to their digital ‘cart’.
Upon exiting the store, the system ends the transaction and charges the card used at the entrance for items purchased. It does track if items are put back, so you will not be charge for items you don’t leave with.
There is a $25 pre-authorization hold placed on the card at entry to ensure funds are present, but that pending charge is removed within 24 business hours as the transaction finalizes.
