Bye launches Assists for Aspiras to raise funds for kids in the Dominican Republic

Brandon Bye Aspiras Foundation

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Every time Carles Gil threads the needle to set up a teammate this season, children in the Dominican Republic will benefit. Every time Gustavo Bou delivers a set piece that a teammate heads home, critical funds will be raised to deliver educational and soccer programming in underprivileged areas. Every time Brandon Bye whips in a cross that gets buried, money will be donated to empower youth in low-income communities.

That’s all thanks to Assists for Aspiras, a fundraising initiative launched on Monday and driven by New England Revolution right back Brandon Bye and his Aspiras Foundation co-founder, Federico Tavarez. Supporters can pledge a dollar amount - $1, $5, $10, or any amount they’d prefer – to donate for each assist registered by the Revolution throughout the 2021 season. So every time a Revolution player helps set up a goal, you can help children in the Dominican Republic.

Bye and Tavarez began The Aspiras Foundation in 2016, starting out as a simple clothing drive designed to provide soccer equipment for children in the Dominican Republic. After their initial target of 150-200 donations was quadrupled, they were inspired to expand their mission and create the foundation. Now, through Assists for Aspiras, they’ve set their sights on a goal of raising $10,000 to be used for a variety of causes in the Dominican Republic.

“We’re just using these funds in basically a season-long donation process through Pledge It – a great platform – and using those donations to help kids in the Dominican Republic through educational and soccer opportunities; teaching English classes, afterschool programs and stuff like that, camps, clinics, those types of things,” said Bye. “We’re excited to run the campaign this year and looking forward to a successful 2021 season, and with that success, that’ll help the campaign.”
