Revolution Lineup Notes: September 23 vs. Montreal Impact

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (3-3-6, 15 pts.) are set to host the Montreal Impact (5-6-1, 16 pts.) at 5:00 p.m. ET on  #KickChildhoodCancer night Gillette Stadium. The match airs locally on NBC Sports Boston, as well as on the radio at 98.5 The Sports Hub, and WBIX 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA. Here is a closer look at New England’s lineup for Wednesday’s contest:

Lineup Notes:

  • New England’s four-man defensive line of Alexander Buttner, Henry Kessler, Andrew Farrell, and Brandon Bye (left to right) will start together for the sixth time this season and the third game in a row.
  • Gustavo Bou wears the captain’s armband in his 11th start of the season. He takes the field as the league leader in total shots (45), also ranking tied for second league-wide in shots on goal (17) and fourth in chances created (27).
  • Lee Nguyen makes his second straight start and third consecutive appearance since re-joining the Revolution on Sept. 8. Nguyen (51G/49A) needs one assist to become the club’s first player with 50 goals and 50 assists in the regular season.
  • Tajon Buchanan will make consecutive starts for the first time this season. Buchanan has appeared in every match of his second MLS campaign and led the team with a career-best three shots on goal in last Saturday’s 0-0 draw against New York City FC.
  • Kelyn Rowe returns to the starting lineup for the first time since Sept. 12 at Philadelphia. Rowe enters the match needing one assist to reach 40 and claim sole possession of fourth-place among New England’s all-time assists leaders.
  • Alexander Büttner earns his fourth consecutive start at left back. Büttner has registered 90-minute shifts in each of the last three matches and is tied for the team lead in assists (2).
  • Brandon Bye makes his 13th start of the season and remains the only player on the team to start every regular season match. He ranks second in the league in aerials won (55) and third in duels won (95).
  • Henry Kessler is set to make his 10th start of the season and his 13th MLS appearance at center back. He continues to lead all 2020 MLS SuperDraft selection in both categories.
  • Matt Turner needs one save to match Jeff Causey (207) for the third most stops in club history. Turner, who has four shutouts in 2020, needs one clean sheet to equal his career-high mark of five shutouts set in 2018 and 2019.

Bench Notes:

  • Diego Fagundez needs two appearances to match Matt Reis (254) for second on the club’s all-time games played list.
  • Matt Polster returns to the matchday roster after serving a one-game suspension during last Saturday’s match against New York City FC for a red card issued on Sept. 12 at Philadelphia.
  • Both Cristian Penilla and Adam Buksa have each appeared in every match this season, with nine and 10 starts, respectively.
