Revolution sign defender Collin Verfurth from Revolution II

DL - Collin Verfurth signing

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution today signed former Revolution II defender Collin Verfurth to a Major League Soccer contract. Verfurth is the first player in club history to ascend from New England’s USL League One side to the first team. A Virginia native, Verfurth was one of the first four players signed to the Revolution II inaugural USL League One roster on Jan. 7, 2020.

“Collin made a good impression on our staff and players over the past two weeks, and it became apparent to us that he would be a good addition to our roster,” Revolution Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena said. “We anticipate that Collin will continue to contribute to Revs II as well as offer important depth to our backline”.

Verfurth, 24, made four appearances with Revolution II during the 2020 preseason before the start of the USL League One season was delayed. He joined New England following a successful rookie campaign with Loudoun United of the USL Championship in 2019. The defender made 23 appearances and 22 starts in his debut season, and recorded his first career assist in a 3-1 win over Charlotte Independence on May 11, 2019. He also featured for D.C. United in international friendlies against Real Betis and Olympique Marseille, playing all 90 minutes on both occasions.

“As we built the Revolution II roster, Collin was selected because we felt he had the potential to make our first team roster,” Technical Director Curt Onalfo added. “We look forward to seeing Collin continue to develop with the first team, contribute to Revolution II, and for more players to follow in his path.”

Prior to joining the professional ranks, Verfurth was a four-year starter at Virginia Tech. He appeared in 72 games and scored nine goals, five of which were game-winners. During his college years, the Ashburn, Va. product also played for Reading United of the Premier Development League (now USL League Two) in 2017 and Northern Virginia United of the NPSL in 2018.

The New England Revolution will resume the club’s 25th MLS season at the MLS is Back Tournament on Thursday, July 9 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
