NOTORONTO – Stoppage time was drama-filled on Wednesday night at BMO Field, where the New England Revolution saw their five-game unbeaten run snapped in heartbreaking fashion with a 4-3 loss to Toronto FC, as simulated by EA SPORTS FIFA 20.

The Revs, who had erased a 3-1 deficit to enter stoppage time level at 3-3, first saw Jonathan Osorio’s second goal of the night push the hosts in front in the 91st minute. Osorio latched onto Jozy Altidore’s header and volleyed home, although there was a hint of offside.

“I’m not going to complain about the fake referees,” head coach Bruce Arena would’ve said. “The game is literally run by a computer, so it has a tendency to get these kinds of calls right.”

Despite falling behind so late there was still a chance at reprieve for the Revs, who were awarded a penalty kick in the 94th minute when second-half substitute Teal Bunbury was chopped down inside the box. Gustavo Bou stepped up to the spot, but unfortunately skied his attempt over the crossbar.

“I’m not exactly used to playing in snow,” Bou likely would’ve said after spending the first 12 years of his career in Argentina, Ecuador, and Mexico. “I don’t even know why it was snowing in late April anyway. Temperatures are usually in the mid-50s in Toronto this time of year.”

Both sides managed through the bizarre weather conditions for much of the match, trading six goals through the opening 75 minutes. Bou did get on the scoresheet when he was sent on a 50-yard breakaway by Carles Gil, while Adam Buksa and Cristian Penilla also found the back of the net.

Buksa now has 11 goals in eight FIFA 20 simulations.

“It’s a little disappointing that I only scored one goal tonight,” Buksa might’ve said after seeing his string of three straight games with multiple goals come to an end. “I’ll try to bag a couple on the weekend to get myself back on track.”

Buksa and the Revs will take aim against New York City FC on Saturday afternoon as they attempt to stay unbeaten at Gillette Stadium this year, both in FIFA 20 and in real life.

“We’ve been great at home so far this season, so we’ll try to keep it that way this weekend,” said every player on the Revs’ roster. “The fans have been great at home, too, so that’s where they should stay for now – at home – and we’ll look forward to the day when we can play in front of them again.”
