Buchanan impressing and “doing very, very well."

Buchanan 2019 Preseason vs Lousiville

BRADENTON, Fla. – With several new faces joining the 2019 New England Revolution squad, the entire roster – including both veterans and rookies – are out to impress during preseason to earn a spot in the starting XI.

Although the Revs fell 3-1 in Thursday’s game against Louisville, newcomer Tajon Buchanan has been demonstrating his ability to assimilate with the team on the pitch. The rookie was the only player to do a full 90-minute run out and also notched a left-footed assist for Justin Rennicks’ diving header goal.

“Tajon’s been doing very, very well,” said head coach Brad Friedel. “He was one of the few bright spots in the first half yesterday and it’s good that he got a full game for us under his belt.

“Hopefully he can do good things for us this season.”

Buchanan was the Revolution’s top pick (9th overall) in this year’s SuperDraft, and he’s proving why as preseason progresses. As he fights to stand out to the coaching staff ahead of the season opener, his hustle and athletic abilities have been readily apparent.

“He’s a talented player,” said Jalil Anibaba. “I think he’s doing his part to learn on the fly and he brings his attributes to the table really well, and I think yesterday was a decent display of that. I think the sky is the limit for him as long as he continues to work hard.

“As far as the locker room is concerned, he’s great kid. He’s been a great addition. He’s mellow, a little bit more quiet, but his personality is starting to come out a little bit more too.”

As preseason continues to advance and Buchanan puts his hat in the ring, his confidence is growing with each opportunity he has to be with his team.

“I think it’s going pretty good so far,” said Buchanan. “It’s a process so I just have to take it day by day. I’ve been enjoying it so far and I’ve been connecting with my teammates every day. I’m happy to be here.”
