Academy Update: Action-packed weekend includes trip to Vancouver for three teams

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – All five New England Revolution Academy teams returned to the pitch for a pair of games over the holiday weekend. The U-19s, U-17s, and U-15s opened play by travelling with the Revolution first team to Vancouver, British Columbia for friendlies against Vancouver Whitecaps FC's Academy on Friday, May 26. The U-14s and U-13s, meanwhile, traveled to Met Oval in Maspeth, N.Y. for a pair of contests on Saturday, May 27. All five teams squared off with Seacoast United on Memorial Day, May 28, in Epping N.H.


All five Academy teams will be back on the pitch this weekend to conclude the USSDA spring schedule, as all five sides will host FC Westchester Armour on Saturday, June 2. The U-19s, U-17s, and U-15s will hold their matches at Assumption College, while the U-14s and U-13s will take the field at Medway High School. One day later, the U-15s will travel to Danbury, Conn. for a match against Beachside Soccer Club.


WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Revolution Academy's U-19s, U-17s, and U-15s travelled with the Revolution first team to play friendlies against Vancouver Whitecaps FC's Academy.
  • Midfielder Nick Firmino '01 (Somerville, Mass.) tallied for a fourth consecutive week, while Pat Quinn '00 (Manchester, N.H.) registered a shutout in the U-19s 2-0 win over Seacoast United.
  • Forward Meny Silva '02 (Dorchester, Mass.) found the back of the net for the third time in four weeks, while Ben Verner'02 (Acton, Mass.) recorded a goal and an assist, and goalkeeper Austin Causey'01 (Groton, Mass.) posted a shutout for the U-17s' in their 3-0 victory over Seacoast United.
  • Midfielder Hikaru Fujiwara '03 (Lexington, Mass.) registered his 11th goal and added his eighth assist of the season, while goalkeeper Nick Cardona '03 (Roxbury, Mass.) preserved a clean sheet for the U-15s in their 2-0 win over Seacoast United.
  • Midfielder Rainer Chai '04 (Boxborough, Mass.) posted his first goal and first assist as a Revolution Academy player over the weekend. In addition, goalkeeper Sebastian Pliszka '04 (Newington, Conn.) picked up a shutout for the U-14s in their 3-0 win over Seacoast United.
  • Midfielder Oscar Martinez '05 (Revere, Mass.) tallied for the U-13s in each of their matches over the holiday weekend.
