Academy Update: All five Academy teams open 2017-18 USSDA schedule

Academy players take the ThinkTaylor Pledge

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy opened the 2017-18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season this past weekend with all five teams hosting matches in East Providence, R.I. The Under-19s, Under-17s, and Under-15s squared off with Empire United on Saturday, while the Under-14s and Under-13s played World Class FC on Sunday.


All five Academy teams will be back in action this Saturday. The U-19s, U-17s, and U-15s will travel to Tinton Falls, N.J. to play Cedar Stars Academy – Monmouth, while the U-14s and U-13s will venture to Mendon, Mass. for matches against NEFC.


WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Midfielder Isaac Angking '00 (Providence, R.I.) registered a brace in the U-19s 3-1 win over Empire United. Last season, Angking featured in just one match with the Revolution U-18s due to spending the majority of the year in U.S. Soccer's U-17 Residency program in Bradenton, Fla.
  • Forward Ben Verner '02 (Acton, Mass.) registered his first assist as a Revolution Academy player in the U-17s 3-2 loss to Empire United. Michael Tsicoulias '02 (Newton, Mass.) and Keel Brissett '02 (Amherst, Mass.) tallied for the Revs in the match.
  • Forward Andrew Serafino '03 (East Longmeadow, Mass.) provided two goals to power the U-15s past Empire United, 3-1. Midfielder Colby Quinones '03 (Bedford, N.H.) and forward Zach Vlachos '03 (Peabody, Mass.) each found the scoresheet for the first time as Revolution Academy players. Quinones provided an assist on Serafino's first goal, while Vlachos tallied the U-15s' third goal of the match.
  • Forward James Torres '04 (Pawtucket, R.I.), Michael Hofstetter '04 (Providence, R.I.), and Leonardo Domingo '04 (Belmont, Mass.) each played a factor in two goals each in the U-14s 4-0 victory over Empire United. Torres posted a goal and an assist, Hofstetter scored two goals, and Domingo registered two assists. Goalkeepers Matthew Tibbets '04 (Westborough, Mass.) and Sebastian Pliszka '04 (Newington, Conn.) combined to record a shutout.
  • Goalkeepers Trevor Piltch '05 (Falmouth, Maine) and Sam Martin '05 (Westwood, Mass.) combined to post a shutout in the U-13s scoreless draw against Empire United.
