FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution will host the Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium in the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinal on Tuesday, August 9 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Home field advantage for the semifinal round was determined via blind draw by the United States Soccer Federation on Thursday morning.

The game is included in season ticket holders’ packages as their special event. Fans can also purchase tickets at the Gillette Stadium box office during Saturday’s MLS regular season match against the Chicago Fire.


New England is making its fourth all-time appearance in the Open Cup Semifinals, where it has accrued a 2-1 record. The club previously advanced to the Semifinals in 2008, 2007, and 2001. New England advanced to the Final in 2007 and 2001, going on to win the U.S. Open Cup Championship in 2007. The Revs defeated the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, July 21, in penalty kicks, 1(4)-1(2), to secure a spot in the final four. New England also defeated the Carolina RailHawks (NASL), 1-0, in the Fourth Round, and the New York Cosmos (NASL), 3-2, in the Round of 16.


Dating back to 1914, the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest cup competition in United States soccer and is among the oldest in the world. Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States, the annual U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament. The winner of the U.S. Open Cup receives a bid to the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, an annual tournament between the top clubs from North America, Central America, and The Caribbean. CONCACAF Champions League’s winner is awarded a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup.
