FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder Jermaine Jones was called in to the U.S. National Team today for the upcoming friendlies against Peru and Brazil. Jones, who was one of 23 players called into the squad by United States head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, traveled to Washington D.C. earlier today after playing 62 minutes in the Revs’ 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park on Saturday night. Jones will miss the Revs’ Sept. 5 home game against Orlando City SC but is scheduled to return to the club ahead of the Sept. 13 road game against Toronto FC.

In the final friendlies before the Oct. 10 CONCACAF Cup against Mexico, the United States will host Peru on Friday, Sept. 4 before travelling to Boston the following day ahead of the friendly against Brazil on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at Gillette Stadium. Jones, who last appeared for the National Team in February, has three goals and four assists in 50 appearances for the U.S. since making his debut in 2010. He has missed the last 12 games that the U.S. has played, including the CONCACAF Gold Cup, as a result of two separate surgeries to repair sports hernias this year. One of three players in the current 23-man squad to have appeared in all four games that the U.S. played at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Jones has collected four caps since joining the Revs in Aug. 2014, playing in a pair of friendlies last year and two more at the beginning of this year, starting in central defense each time.

With the Revs, Jones has appeared in 12 regular-season games this season, starting 11 of those and helping the club go 6-1-5 in those matches. Jones has appeared in each of the Revs’ last three games, starting the last two, after missing two months of action while recovering from bilateral sports hernia surgery on June 12.
