Youth Update: April 22

Zach Herivaux vs. New York Red Bulls - Youth Academy

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution’s youth teams traveled to Purchase, N.Y., last weekend to face Everton FC Westchester on Saturday, April 19. The Under-18s and Under-14s posted 6-0 and 2-1 wins, respectively, while the Under-16s suffered a 4-1 defeat as the Revs returned home with a 2-1-0 overall record on the day.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s continued their winning run as they recorded a 6-0 win over Everton FC Westchester on Saturday. The Revs went ahead in the 13th minute as Amadu Kunateh (Lynn, Mass.) picked up Luke Albertini’s (North Attleboro, Mass.) pass and lobbed the Everton goalkeeper. Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) doubled the lead in the 21st minute, finishing from the top of the box off of Guy Kabala’s (Manchester, N.H.) delivery. Kunateh grabbed his second goal early in the second half, firing in from close range after Apajee’s cross was blocked. The U18s added to the score through Freddie Ferre’s (Waltham, Mass.) volley in the 55th minute and scored two late goals to complete the result. Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) finished from Zach Herivaux’s (Brookline, Mass.) cross in the 82nd minute, before Herivaux picked up Christian Sady’s (North Andover, Mass.) pass and converted with a low shot three minutes later. The win is the U18s sixth in a row in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy where they now hold a 10-5-2 (32 pts.) record. The U18s now sit in third place with 1.88 points per game.

UNDER-16s

A young Under-16s side – which included seven Under-14s players – fell to a 4-1 defeat against Everton FC Westchester. The Revs started well and scored in the 16th minute when Derek Blanchette (Scituate, R.I.) played in U14s forward Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) who beat an Everton defender before firing in a goal off the crossbar. The lead lasted 15 minutes before Cameron Riach equalized for Everton and Daniel Figarella put the New York side ahead at the stroke of halftime. Two quick tallies early in the second half from Christopher Estevez and Thomas Suchecki put the game out of the Revs’ reach. With the result, the U16s slipped to eighth in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with a 6-9-3 record (21 pts.) and 1.17 points per game.

UNDER-14s

The Under-14s came out on top in a game of few chances, posting a 2-1 victory against Everton FC Westchester. The Revs took the lead in the fourth minute when Christian Schifano (Sudbury, Mass.) scored with a first-time shot after Laz Dorogi (West Boylston, Mass.) re-directed Isaac Angking’s (Providence, R.I.) cross into his path. The U14s were pegged back in the 55th minute as Andrew Lasso scored for Everton, but the Revs were not to be denied and Alex Shertenberg (Westwood, Mass.) grabbed the game-winner 10 minutes later, volleying in from the edge of the area after a corner kick was only half-cleared. The win pushed the U14s’ unbeaten run to 13 games (11-0-2) since September, and the team is now 12-2-2 for the season.

The Under-18s and Under-16s are next in action on Saturday, May 3, when they face Empire Revolution at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The Under-14s will travel to play BSC CT Academy on Saturday, April 26, at Veteran’s Stadium in West Haven, Conn.
